Silly Question

stuck

Sorry about this gents but I've never had to do this before so how do you prove No.1 piston is at TDC on the compression stroke?

Next question is will I need pulling gear to get the crankshaft pulley off?

I'm awaiting a box of bits from Mr fridgefreezer, as a sparky the wiring side dosen't bother me but as you can see I'm a bit tick when it comes to the rest of it!

Cheers,

Mick.

take no 1 plug out (LH bank at the front) and dizzy cap off, noting where no 1 plug lead connects to. turn engine over on crank pulley until the rotor arm points to the right place (if the cap was on). once you get to that point you are fairly close.

i find it easiest to put a screwdriver into no 1 plug hole at this point, and slowly turn the crank pulley, you will feel when the screwdriver reaches TDC, as it will start to descend again.

Last pulley I took of was with the engine on a stand in the garage.

Fitted the puller with all its legs trying to flop all over the place.

Reached behind me for the spanner, lost my balance, grabbed puller to regain balance, flat on back with puller and pulley in lap.

Answer to your question....not as tight as I thought.
