Discofan
My disco is a 1996 so it's an electronic speed sensor type. The speedo has just stopped working, can anyone tell me how to test the sensor to find out if it's that or the clock that's gone. Any help will be appreciated, cheers. cipx2
The speed sensor is like a On/Off switch. On the green wire with a yellow stripe it receives +12 V after ignition on - test that. On the remaining black wire with a red stripe it sends back the +12V signal when its closed. It closes 6 times every wheel revolution (almost 2 times per handbrake drum revolution) - test the disconnected speed sensor for intermittent continuity while you turn the handbrake drum with one rear wheel lifted from the ground (be careful on safety!). To: cpx2 Took the speed sensor out, cleaned it, tested it. Put it back to try it and it works !! Don't know how long for but happy for now. Especially as Paddock quoted £44 plus p and p. Thanks a lot for the input.
First_Fleet
Just pray you got the tiny spindle in the hole & not to one side, or it will chew it out after a few kms.
