sargejnr
has any one got a good diagram of the 300tdi fuel pump as i could do with tightening a screw on it to get my tick over and general response so much better than it is
cipx2
I think you mean the injection pump. What's wrong with your motor's tick over?
sargejnr
the tick over is just over 500 rpm, iv been told theres a screw on the fuel pump that u break the collar off and just tighten the screw in so that it builds the revs up as it should idle at 1000 rpm,
Les Henson
The idle adjustment screw on a diesel engine is for fine tuning really. Winding it right out shouldn't cause the engine to stop. They 'naturally' tick over with no assistance from the idle screw or cable tension. There are two adjusters on the pump, and neither one should be touched unless someone has been experimenting with them and altered them from the factory settings. If your engine cuts out with your foot off the pedal, then it's likely it's not the idle screw setting that's the problem. Les.

Les Henson
What exactly is your problem, natural idle, pulling away, throttle response, top speed ? Les.
sargejnr
yeah, all of that, it is very sluggish, takes for ever to get up to 60, idle is a lot lower than any other vehicle i have owned, acceleration aint there, generally no response, its a right pig to start for the first time every day, turns over for ages before finaly firing away, i have changed the lift pump as i was told that could be the reason bt its no different, the only good thing is it still moves so im able to drive it
Les Henson
It could have been the lift pump - valve sticking open and allowing fuel to drain back to the tank when the engine is off. Have you changed the fuel filter recently and do you know if anyone has touched the adjusters of the timing of the injector pump? Les.
