HELP! light problem

It seems i'm having one of those days, i have a problem with my lights i need sorting tonight ideally.

when i turn on the sidelights the small lights come on but the main ones which usually come on slightly dimmer don't, this is also accompanied by a high pitched continuos beeping noise which i've never heard before.

when i put the main lights on they're fine, but high beam only the drivers side comes on, the spots which are also wired into high beam won't work either.

any ideas?

-and i've just noticed, wiggling the wires on the ignition make the whining noise change...

A friend of mine had a simalar problem on his 05 td5, no spots but the side light main beam issue.

I will ring and check with him but he found a major damp issue and with current weather that would not be a suprise wherever you are in the UK.

I am new on here this may take a while to appear I will ring him now. I certainly remember him going on about the bleep noise.

1995 300 Tdi, if i know what the problem is i can get the part first thing tomorrow. i just wanted to make sure that it is the relay before i replace it.

On the same subject, i had this problem when i first got the vehicle, but it didn't make the noise, all the other syptoms were the same though, i replaced the headlight bulb thinking one had gone but that didn't cure it, but after a few days it went back to normal of its own accord so i just thought i'd got some water in the wiring and it'd dried out. any chance it's related?

Edit; i never really liked the idea of having the spots wired to the high beam curcuit, is it easy to change the wiring so i can turn them on/off regardless of what lights are on?

if all the lights are working perfectly except from the dim dip unit ,which without going technical, runs the headlights at a lower power so they work as side lights ,then I would have said either faulty unit or check earthing to unit. May be simpler to do away with unit by connecting the headlight dip inputs to it to the dip output from it ,

Here we go

This is the relay block looking from the top. DON'T try to remove it.

If you join the two sockets that I've blacked in. Then the headlights should work without the relay.

Use a fused link to do the checking.

One advantage of this set-up is that the heradlights only come on when switched on with the ign switched on.
