  1. Sorry meant to say thank again for fab site, I am a mechanical moron, this site gives me the confidence to do the little jobs, in awe of anyone who takes on the bigger jobs.
  2. Just changed my fuel filter on TD5 only the second time i have done it, this time sloshing and squeaking and started first time after that, last time it took forever to get going and I nearly flattened the battery. Something I am not keen on doing apart from the usual battery hassel removing child seat out as well...........what fag.
  3. I always assumed that it does 'go off' because some parts of it evaporate faster than others, always drain the tank, I have a small collection of stationary engines that always start better with 'fresh' petrol.
  4. Firstly congratulations, secondly I had the same problem when ours was on the way/young (now two) I also as someone else has mentioned could not find a seat for the middle for the simple reason when very young the little fellows has to face backwards. What we do now is have two car seats one forward facing on the passenger seat and I take him out on what have become known as 'lads trips' anything from getting the paper to going to work at the weekends to check on the guys working, hunting etc. If we go out as a family he goes with in the other car with a back seat.
  5. 'illegal for road use'?????? What are they talking about? Number are not required for non road use. plenty of them are on vehicles.
  6. No problem look forward to hearing which route you go down.
  7. Just bumping this up the order.
  8. I am sure that whoever was resposible has been sacked...............oh no course not this is the government, I read this with shock in the paper this morning, un flagging believable.
  9. Guava that is the dealer, there used to be hundreds of landys at Southampton docks, have not been there for while, I spent a whole summer there 20 years working and try to work out a way of getting one out! They would never notice!!! The plan never got passed the ideas stage.
  10. there is a land rover dealer whose names escapes just south of Guildford near Godalming who specialise in ROW (rest of world) spec landys, mostly white for obvious reasons, not a million miles from Farnbough.
  11. Not sure what age your TD5 is but there are 'procedures' for battery removal/installation on mine. I would be bold enough to say that a quick flash SHOULD only blow a fuse, that is after all what fuses are for?
  12. You will think I am mad but just read this anyway! In a past life i had a lot of dealings with horse box makers but also boat builders, the build quality and ideas of most boat builders is far higher, and their ways of fitting 'things into small spaces is normally genius. Sadly I have no contact with the boat building company anymore (the owner has died and the business sold) but if you are near the coast might be worth a try? You may have to chisel past the snotty receptionist at most boat builders (boat builders receptionist went to the same school as doctors receptionists -i can say that save in the knowledge that mother in law does reception work for father in law the dr. a normal placid charming lady turns into a nutter once given a pen, phone and appointments book!!) Oakley in Ware herts are 'the' name in horse boxes, they may provide 'shiny' and smart looking horse boxes interiors and exteriors but as i say their ideas are way behind what a boat builder will fit into the same hole. Or if you want just the doors made up Ifor Williams (not that you guess but the are in Wales -North i think) make loads of covers and trailers build quality not stunning but again may be worth a call.
  13. Just touching on the battery issue modern batteries in my experience tend to do that, without warning they just die, I had a simalare problem earlier in the year, once the battery is dead the vehicle thinks it has been nicked so will imobilse itself, the key will still bring all the lights up but the red engine with a jagged line through will light up to (on the lower half of the light panel close to glow plug light)
  14. christ it would be like driving a boat where the water was cooking oil, love the double steps!
