fuel gauge

Hi, my fuel gauge has stopped working, checked the sender and get a variable ohmm reading as I move the float up and down but no reaction at the gauge, changed the gauage no joy, changed all the clocks no reaction put my sender into another car no reaction, at the wire socket I am only getting 1.8v. so any ideas???

Hi, update just in case. Time to put hands up and admit I'm a pillo-k, auto sparky mate came out did loads of checks and found the wiring had caught the tailpipe of the exhaust and melted through them, no power return to gauge, new wire inserted and fuel gauge now works.

I was going to ask ...

Where did you take the ohm reading, ie at which end of the wire.If you measured the reading at the gauge end of the wire maybe you would have found the fault ?? Ea sy in hindsight ...
