V6 misfire

2003 V6, never missed a beat but now got a prob.

Basically it started with a misfire and engine light intermittently comming on.

Got a diagnostic check done, code was PO304 but discription was a misfire on cylinder three ? !

Changed plug and coil pack but still running lumpy.

Engine light on perminantly until medium / hard accelaration then it flashes.

No coolant loss / no signs of head gasket gone. Dipstick spotless. No back pressure. Engine runs at correct temp. Heater / thermostat etc all working correctly.

Cleared the fault and it comes back fairly quickly. Used the diagnostics under the misfire count, it's counting on cylinder number 4 so I guess the diagnostic has got a description error in the software. However, I'm not sure how the cylinders are numbered...

If its not the plugs / coil, what else could it be ?

Appreciate any help. Thanks everyone.

Thanks for the reply. Yes the fault code is Cylinder number 4 but the ECU reads the firing order as 6,5,4,3,2,1. So cylinder 4 is the 'third' to be read, hence fault code being number 4 cylinder but the description saying number three ( i.e cylinder 4, the thrid cylinder in the sequence)

Still got a damn misfire though ! grrrrrr
