RaDi90Hybrid
Hi All My mates Freelander has a hole in the rear diff now! One of the bolts securing the crown wheel teeth to the wheel lost it's head which then impacted with the ally casing causing a hole at the top. Has anyone else heard of anything similar or can shed any light on how it could be caused? There does not appear to be any other damage to the internal workings of the diff and all the other bolts appear to be intact. The thinking at the moment is that the bolt could have been faulty or overtightened. Could it have been caused by a faulty viscous? Is there a way to check the viscous without removing it? Here's hoping. Andy
Llanigraham
Normal cause it a fubarded VCU!! Normal test to to try and turn a rear wheel in the air with a breaker bar and socket on the hub nut but i don't think it will work for you, so I would presume it's duff, and look for a replacement.
