ChrisLR2
Hi I'm wondering how much the average Land Rover specialists garage would charge for a passenger side outrigger replacement for my 1993 Defender? Could anyone give me a rough price I'll be looking at? Thank you Chris
Les Henson
There's 3 - ways of doing it really. The bulkhead (?) outrigger goes over the top of the chassis rail, so is difficult to remove and replace/weld around the top. However, if the outrigger is still solid at the top, then it's possible to slice it off level with the outer face of the chassis, cut the new one in a similar fashion, then weld it on as normal. The cut part is easily welded from underneath/inside. To do it 'properly' I would expect a couple of hundred quid perhaps, as there's no easy way to get at the top of the chassis with the footwell/exhaust/fuel lines, etc, in the way. I've also cut the footwell, bent it up out of the way, replaced the outrigger, then bent back down and welded the footwell. As usual - there are several ways of doing the job. Les.
