Hi!

I have a major electrical problem in my Discovery I -98. All of the problems below occurs intermittent.

Problem 1. It all started when i pusched the two button remotcontrol to lock the car, then the alarm started to sound. I unlock the car with the remote without any problem.

Problem 2. After this problem the right indicator started to shine constantly when I moved the indicator stick to the right. And the green indicator symbol started to shine as well. I then cecked all the fuses and they were fine. But when I pulled out fuse nr 1 in the facia fusebox (indicators and brakelight) and then lock the car with the remote without any problem. The alarm and hazard blink three times as it should. When I put the fuse back the same problem occur.

Problem 3. When i pusch the hazardswitch all the warninglights (SRS, glow, oilpessure etc) start to blink together with the hazardlights.

Problem 4. The next problem that occurd was that the car wouldent start, like the battery run flat. But after trying to start a couple of times the cars start without any problem, but with a lot of hessitating from the starter. Its like a jeopardy for two days if it starts or not. Then all of a sudden its been working for a week without any problem.

Problem 5. When pushing the hazard buttom the front wipers starts and they sometimes move slow, sometimes fast. This fault have only occurd one time.

Problem 6. After a week without any starting problems but with electrical problem with the indicator and hazard + warninglights. The cars suddenly wont start again. I tried to start the car three times but startermotor wont start the car, almost like the battery is run flat (battery fully charged the night before)Its just a clicking sound. Then on my fourth attempt to start it starts like it never have done before. With full power!

I have now checked every fuse again, and checked all the earthing points in the RAVE manual. I have also tested the MFU by doing the MFU test with the heated rear window switch. The only thing that wouldent self test is the rearwiper washer fluid.

What can be the problem, feels that I have tried everything, please give me som thoughts, tips or new inputs! Family planning to drive to Spain in February. Please help!

Check the terminals on the battery are clean and tight, also check you battery is good.

Have you checked the earth that is right by the battery on to the body?

I know you said you checked all the earths off the Rave , did you get the one by the fuse box in the drivers footwell?

Have you checked the earth to the bell housing?

Is the spider playing up?

Tank you for answering!

I have checked the the battery terminals and the chassi earth, and have fully charged battery. I realised yesterday that the earth cable between the battery ang chassi is split and attached to the aluminium body. This one I havent checked yet and also the bell housing is left to check. The one in the fotwell is checked.

Meaby the spider is playing up. But are the spider related to the indicators and the hazards? Or is it two problems? Strange though that the came at the same time mor or less.

How did you know i was a "Tank":D

Seriously now, from all the faults you have explained above it does sound earth related.

The indicator and hazard lights could be a alarm fault....is the battery ok in the fob?

The non starting could be imobiliser or spider fault

Srs etc lights ....must be earth

Just another thing to check .... the positive connections in the underbonnet fuse box, especially the main feed in from the battery.

I have taken the car for a ride today and no symtoms of any faults. But I know that the problem still is in the car cause there is a intermittent clicking sound when driving. Sounds like a relay.

I have changed the battery in my fob over a week ago and it made no difference. I agree that it sounds like a earth problem.

What do you mean by checking the positive connections, especially the main feed in from the battery. If I unscrew the screw to the right connector and then put it back there is a clicking sound. Is it normal?

I am glad that the description Tank suited you. THANK You as well!

Also driving a white Disco!

There is a fuse box in the engine bay, a black box just rear of the battery. Take the lid off and clean up the main feed into this fuse box.

When you disconnect the positive terminal, and reconect it and you get a 'click' with the ignition turned off, then something is drawing current.

The 'clicking when youre driving sound like a loose conection, try and see if you can hear where it is coming from and investigate, could be the source of youre poblem.

Cheers

Tony

I will check this asap!

I have read some threads suggestin a "green box" can be the problem. Whats the "green box"? Can this be the failure of my car?

The green box is the alarm / imobiliser ecu, this could cause youre starting and indicator problem , but not youre wipers srs etc.

Is is located on the passenger side under the dashboard just oppsite the bonnet pull handal
