RRC95 - Genarator - Phase tap resistor

LR circuit diagrams and component location photos show a 'phase tap resistor' in the feed from the generator to the rev counter and air suspension ECU. The diagram shows its value as 820ohms.

My car doesn't seem to have had this since I have had it, about 10years.

Does anyone know what it was for, is it still required and if not why was it discontinued. What is the specification for the resistor package?

The latest available generators, will operate the rev counter/ air suspension ECU, but not give a charge light when the ignition is first switched on before the engine is started. However light willl come on if the feed to the rev counter etc is disconnected, but then the air suspension will not work.

Desmo who now make the alternator say the generator is built to the specification they were given, the problem is feed back from the dash.

Anybody seen this issue and are there any solutions?

Brian
