jumping jack
1991 discovery 200 tdi, makes a scrapping / knocking sound when being driven, goes away when in neutral or when clutch is depressed, not loud but getting louder each day. My first thoughts are thrust bearing but not sure, any ideas? any help gratefully recieved.
dirtyninety
what about when in neutral but coasting? Obviously check prop UJ's as they often give strange noises.
ejparrott
I was under the impression thrust bearings or release bearings only made a noise when pressing the clutch, as they should only be working then, merely sitting clear of the clutch until required? jumping jack
Thanks for the replies guys, looks like it was the beginners error of ungreased uj's. Should have looked there first.
