biggles
Sorry if this has been asked before, but after a search this morning on here I couldn't find the answer i was looking for. So question Td5 defender, snorkel fitted, any recommendation's as to the best air filter to use? I was told once that the genuine Land Rover ones are about the best to use, as long as you change em often, others say the likes of itg etc. thanks for any help
landy andy.
Paper ones are best, original Land Rover is my favourite, but doubt there is much in it. If you use ITG, Pipercross, K&N,(oil, element filters) then you run the risk of ruining your MAF sensor with the oil. Andy

rick
The other point is that aftermarket oiled foam and oiled cotton filters pass more containments, ie. more dirt and sand than a paper style filter. In a dusty environment this can have a marked reduction on engine life. Be a little careful and probably best to stick to the OE panel filter as some aftermarket ones don't seal well in the airbox either. and FWIW, the air cleaner is more important than the oil filter for engine life too. Dirt ingestion, shown up as a combination of high silicon and sodium levels in oil tests also corresponds with high wear metal levels.
