I went with 3/16 22g soft copper when I did mine last year and not had any problems...well not with the rear. The ABS light has gone out now I've fitted a brake caliper I got off a scrappy and reconditioned :)

Copper/nickel is best. (ie cunifer tube, Cu - copper Ni - nickel, Fe - iron)

Copper pipe can work harden and there is the possibility that you can suffer fatigue failure of pipes in areas subject to vibration. Cunifer is nicer to work with and normally a few pence cheaper.
