stuck
Gent's, I have just aquired a series 1 with a seized Siamese engine, I've been told that No. 3 piston is at fault. Assuming that the rings are stuck in the cylinder what is the best thing to pour in there in an attempt to free it off? Cheers, Mick. discomikey
would be best to take the head off, and fill the bores with diesel. then put a diesely rag over the block face to keep moisture away and leave it to soak for a good amount of time, depending on how siezed it is id guess at leaving it a week to soak. then get a block of wood that will fit down the bores and use it to drift the pistons down, then move across so the ones that were going down a bit are going up etc. and keep working it alternate ways till its loose enough. then inspect the bores. chances are youll need to hone them. tugboat
Try 50/50 acetone and ATF fluid. I came across this suggestion for penetrating-oil-max on some US forums. Used it for the first time a few weeks ago as a last resort and it saved me from having to destroy a yacht's stainless propeller shaft with a forged steel coupling seized onto it after 33 years of use. Keep it away from oil seals though - some of the polymers don't like acetone.
