danebrewer
Hi all, I'm currently taking my 1985 90 apart to rebuild it and I have been looking at the lower dash, of course being older than I am, it's picked up a fair few dinks, scrapes, cracks and somewhere where someone's melted the vinyl covering with the fag lighter. so the question is this, can they be re-covered or am I just going to have to live with it, as with 2nd hand ones at abour £145 from LR series, and genuine ones POA (usually means you can't afford it) new ones from craddocks (AWR5007 - RHD DUCT-HEATER With speaker without immobilisation) sliding in at £745.... Adam001
I'm just about to do this along with a load of other panels, I've ordered high temperature (150C) Spray adhesive ... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320768691072?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 and vinyl leatherette http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170927525711?var=470207493874&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 Wanted to use bull hide, but can't stretch to it at the moment. Simply plan to stretch the vinyl over the panel and if it won't match the curves I'll add in a stitch line.
danebrewer
aah, I'll be interested to see how it goes, I'd guess that the old vinyl is pretty brittle, but I did read somewhere that you need some foam (thin) sheet under the vinyl as there are some dips and holes in the pressing that need covering up. let us know how you get on! Cheers.

Adam001
Yeah, using a heat gun for the corners helps, the foam they are referring to is 'scrim foam', typically 3mm. I'm not using any for mine, if it fails I'll let you know.
danebrewer
alternatively, there seem to be a few companies that will recover things like this..... http://www.trimlineleatherrepairs.co.uk/index.html#WhatWeDo http://www.thetrimmingcentre.co.uk/
