Disco-Ron
Hi all, I'd did a search, but couldn't find any specific answer... I've just bought a '86 90 with a v8 from a range rover, along with a long bell housing lt77, with the transfer box in neutral, I have run through all the gears, reverse is making an awful whine, and when reversing it sounds and feels like reverse is locking up, and making horrible noises, is reverse a known weakness on these boxes?? I'm quite handy with spanners, has anyone used an Ashcroft rebuild kit?...... I suspect I might need s new reverse shaft and possibly gear aswells...... Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks
Quagmire
I have rebuilt an lt77- is doable with the space and time. Check the tech archive for a photo heavy thread, and Google around for PDFs of the official workshop manual which describes everything. Good luck
Disco-Ron
I'm gonna admit to being an idiot on this topic, the handbrake shoes were sodden with oil and grabbing in reverse....... Problem hopefully sorted!!
