Marky
Hi, I am new to this forum and found it by by chance when surfing the net. I have recently got myself a 1998 Discovery (not quite sure if it is a Series i or ii) and it is my 1st ever land rover and only my 2nd 4x4. The barrel lock on the drivers door packed in last week and was just wondering if anybody has replaced one and if so is a simple task or not. I have justed moved to Duabi and the weather is very hot at the moment and working on anything out doors at this time of year is a bit of task. Just wondering typical time involved to changing the barrel lock. I have ordered a new Barrel Lock from the UK, Rimmer Bros., and should arrive here in about 2 weeks time so I have got plenty of time to prepare !! Any tips or suggetsion would be most welcome. BogMonster
You will have to dismantle the door which is likely to take a couple of hours I should think, I've not done it on a Discovery. If the VIN number is SALLJ... then it is a series 1, if it is SALLT... then it is a S2.
russ3120
marky when you say the barrel lock has packed up, can you explain more? does it open when you turn the key in the lock and pull the handle? if so then its just the spring thats gone and they are about £5 for 2 on ebay still need to strip the door down though Russ
