Please talk me (wife) out of buying a MK1 TD4

As if keeping a 1991 Defender 110 on the road isnt bad enough-the wife wants to change her car and has either a MK2 Merc A-Class on the list (my preffered choice) allthough she needs the boot space and dosnt like the lip when the seats fold. The 2nd choice is a face lifted TD4 station wagon Freebie. :angry:

Are the 'horror stories' of IRD/viscous couplings still relavant to the later MK1's? I know of the crankcase breather issue on the TD4, anything else to help talk the wife out of it or should I bite the bullet and go for it and really make my parts supplier happy?
