Been thinking about changing my standard white painted, rust prone, standard wheels on my 1991 defender 90, ( 16ins.? ) for some standard or at least not over the top, alloy wheels- any thoughts on what looks good and whats available, pref. near to Bristol? oh and can't raise the overall height or wont be able to park it. Many thanks.

can anyone help me out please- M.O.T. nearly out(3 days), just realised the vin plate is missing, landrover can get me a new one but lord knows how long it will be and the no. on the front chassis is unreadable. So is there no way of getting an mot until my new plate arrives? many thanks, stuck of Bristol.

Just wondering if yours was mot'd without the vin plate, as mine is missing and the replacement may take weeks apparently.

Hi, mot coming up and I remember reading that a few things were changing this year courtesty of computerised mots etc. I Know my vin plate fell off a while back- guess I need to replace this? and how? Also wasn't there a problem with the log book weights meaning even my 1991 defender 90 would need a class 7 test or something of that sort? Any experiences? - runs out in 13 days. Thanks all.

You need a spacer ring to go on the left hand one, then the Halfords pioneer speakers etc. will fit no trouble. These spacers are normally available on e-bay.

Took the first headlamp suurround off , to find a huge amount of rust - on the chrome rim and bowl beneath, screws all seized up or too rusty to risk so I have ordered new rims and bowls. Are these straightforward to fit? does the electric lead feed through these easily? and what about setting the beam? Many thanks again for the help.

Hi and thanks for all the help over the weeks from Les , Ralph and many others, much appreciated. Now, i have ordered from Paddocks, a Wipac Crystal Halogen conversion set as my old sealed beams are rusted and dim. Do you think these will make a big difference to the brightness of beam? and are they straightforward to fit?, how about alignment, or should they be ok if fitted correctly? Guess it will have some instructions with it, forgot to ask, cheers.

Yes, as above- light seems to turn on and off without any human influence. Guess it must be rust at a door switch causing the circuit to earth and so come on? Any other explanations? Cheers again all and thanks. Have got some new door switches and a day off tomorrow so raring to go. (2001 200tdi 90 station wagon.)

Sorted now with a new battery, thanks for all the advice. Alternator charging correctly, 9 month old battery now going back from whence it came.

Thanks for that, my ammeter shows a charge rate well over to the right and no red light appears on the dash, therefore I guees its trying to charge it but the battery must be duff? Ta for help.

hi All, Further to my battery problem- when I try to turn the engine I just get a continual clicking sound from the starter motor. Surely 11.6 volts should be enough in the battery to start it? As soon as the jump leads go on it fires into life straight away. So, as my wipers and indicators work at normal speed, could it be the starter motor is at fault, needing extra current? thanks again.

My nearly new battery has taken to going flat if left for 2 or 3 days. When I say flat, I mean just not quite enough charge to turn over engine- indicators, wipers etc. are fine. The only thing that has changed is that I have parked it facing downhill, no new accesories or anything. Seems to think its January again, wonder what is causing it to discharge? Any ideas would be great,battery has been fine for approx. 9 months, cheers.

Oil is leaking out of me rear nearside hub onto the rear of the tyre and onto the road,no oil at the front of the wheel, presumably there isnt a lot of oil to come out and it should stop dripping after a short while. Should i get this replaced very quickly? What can happen if its left for a while? Cheers all.

Def. too big for me splines- a 5p coin just fits in the hole. Weird business.

Correct Ralph, its ANR 1972 but def. the thick splines, whats this off then? so I can try to sell it, cheers. Vinyl rim yes. Pad no. OTR 02760 / 16563C.

Cheers Ralph, looks similar if not the same- its also the same diameter as my old four spoke plastic.
