  1. Thanks for the thought! Not impossible! it looks like I'm going to have to get another engine and the chances of getting one out here in France are slim.

Is it a runner? complete? How much do you want for it? I've had gearbox's shipped out many a time.

    Cheers

    Jason

Sorry this took so long to reply, basically the engine was in my Series 3, it drove about 20 miles under my ownership before being removed. (IanS actually drove it while I followed) It smoked a little but didn't seem to be making any untowards noises, pulled well and started good from cold.

It's a 2.25 late 5 bearing engine, it still has the alternator/starter/flywheel/manifolds fitted at the moment.

Having been sat outside for a little over a year I cannot attest to the condition of the engine inside but it's yours for a donation to this forum. (assuming it's still relevant and you cover all shipping costs).

Drop me a PM if you're interested :)

  2. Got a URL for the website?

The seatbelt mounts for the RRC seats are built into the seats themselves. My friends 95/96 Discovery has very different seat mountings to my 98 Disco. Mine being the same as my previous RRC and his being thinner.

The rears should be a straight swap though.

  3. About the front end. I really want the pulleys to be vee-pulleys, since Ive all vee belt ancillaries and built up brackets for all the ancillaries I want. I'd really not fancy nouting new ancillaries/pulleys to get it all working on seprentine. Esp. the york AC pump for OBA.

Does the water pump for serpentine front end rotate in the same direction as for a vee belt system. I.e. can I run the serpentine water pump in the same rotation as the engine and just make up a vee belt pulley for it.

The serp water pump operates in the oppisite direction to the earlier V-belt driven pump, hence the thread being handed differently on the viscous fan units pre/post serp.

  4. The old man currently has a 4.6 in his RRC (overfinch). This has a remapped hotwire system, X-bolted 4.6 block/serpentine (intermediate) front cover with dizzy. I'm not sure if the auto box has been upgraded but I'm fairly sure the diffs have not. It's behaved itself so far although the autobox is now getting a little tired.

Just thought those details might be of help :)

  5. and its not just the self levelling either - the actual lense is very different between a standard filament light and a HID. beam pattern, focus and spread are all different on a HID.

As above, retro fit HID bulbs are not legal, you need an entire light unit designed for HID.

  6. I understand your motives, however as someone who has had a member of joe public park up his car under my bedroom window whilst he went off on a dirty weekend (not mud) and expected me to stop any git from attacking his car when it woke me up, I disagree with the whole ethos of alarms and expecting someone else to stop the theft.

Besides which I have seen people happily deriving a car with the alarm in full voice etc.

As an owner of a Series 1 which is driven with no door tops or door locks I rely on large imovable and obvious locks and hidden switches.

    Marc.

It was more for my benefit if I happen to be close by rather than rely on anyone else. Parking up at a pub or outside a mates for a few hours for example.

  7. I shall follow this thread with interest...

I have been pondering security for my soft top series 3 for a while now, A loud alarm triggered by doors and an imobiliser is on the cards. I also figured a large chain a shiney padlock through a wheel and over a chassis leg might deter somone. It lives in the garage at home, after i've removed the hood sticks. I also have an unmarked switch that kills the fuel pump and coil. Starting is via an unmarked push button rather than the ignigtion.
