  1. I had a Kenlowe on the CSK, 4.6 with long headers, hardly ever came on when actually moving in the UK even when towing and I didn't have any issues cooling when doing a fair whack for hours on end in the south of Romania in 30ish degrees. The CSK had to large spotlights blocking the airflow.

Disco 1 V8 had a mechanical, failed 3 times, stuck on in -7 which made for a chilly holiday!

Currently both the P38 and the RRC have mechanical fans, I've had the mechanical fan kick in once or twice in the classic when pulling up a long hill with a big weight on but it's also cooling the auto box so that might account for the added heat. I haven't really used the P38 much so can't comment. The MGB GT V8 fans only come on when stationary or crawling in traffic.

  2. To be honest, it sounds like you are pretty happy with what you have?

I am happy but feel I could get a little more performance out of them when dragging the caravan off wet fields and plodding through the snow, trying to decide if the grass is greener or not!

The CSK has very road bias tyres and they tramline terribly and I wouldn't say offer any better grip.

I don't think I want anything more road biased than the Uniroyals already on there but am pondering more A/T based tyres...

  3. The time has come to purchase new tyres for the 4 door, I currently have Uniroyal rallye 4x4 street - cam skill link - and I might put these back on however I'm considering the ubiquitous General Grabber AT tyre.

I mostly do road driving, a fair portion of that towing a caravan or trailer, the rest split between motorway/a road and country lane. I do the odd bit of green laning, some driving in fields and some snow.

I've found the uniroyals to be pretty good at dragging the caravan off muddy campsites although they do get a bit squirmy and they're very good at stopping in the wet. Both a friend and my brother have the AT on Disco2 and their wet performance doesn't seem quite as good but they're probably a lot better in the poor conditions.

Any experience of the AT on a classic? Any other tyres I should really consider?

I've had Geolander Yokos on a Discovery 1 and they were a bit slippy in the wet on road, used to have Pirelli Scorpions on my old classics but they're an old tyre now and I also found them lacking compared to the Uniroyal.

  4. I'm considering making an offer to a family friend on an A reg 110, I've been to have a look and it's in bit of a state but nothing that can't be fixed with a new cross member, some footwells and door bottoms.

It started life as a 3.5 V8 but currently has a Nissan FD35T that the current owner paid a garage to fit, along with a LT77. The engine is allegedly low mileage and has been running in the 110 but was parked up very shortly after.

Does anyone have experience of this conversion?

How would it compare to a 3.9 or 4.6 on EFI?

What's the going rate for a 110 that needs welding and recomissioning work along with a paint?

Few photos below, it's been stood for a good few years...

  5. It has loads of interior modifications unfortunately not by WP. I'll have to source a new dash ideally.

The plan is to get it running and welded then worry about tidying it up.

Do you know if 4 door tail gates will fit a 2 door shell?

Yes they will, but you'll either need the correct tailgate for the age or convert the catches and handle mechanism. They can be either external or internal handle and these had different catches to the body. An 87 4 door would be internal handle...

  6. Cheers Pete, I added you as a friend on facebook the other day, When I've got the logbook sorted and gathered a few parts I may need to nip up and take a few measurements and see what things should actually look like!

    Its a 1987

I wondered if that might be you :)

It looked pretty interesting by the photos on FB, that front grill looks like it could be from a sheer-rover - http://www.range-rover-classic.com/Home/land-rover-brochures/range-rover-specials/wood-pickett-ltd---uk

    Does it have interior modifications?

  7. It depends on the age of the 2 door, the CSK uses welded construction for the body and the only differences in construction are the A posts and the B post/side panel between A and C post.

The earlier 2 doors had bolt in panels and a different floor plan layout.

Exterior panels are roughly the same, fuel filler cap became covered and then eventually became the high level filler. Front wings had indicators in different places. They always had exposed door hinges but bonnet hinges became hidden.

My repair panels came from YRM and seemed to have been modeled around a mid 80's 4 door, I had to fabricate the bottom of the B posts as they weren't available at the time and the bonnet latch config was from an early car. The quality of the panels was great and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

You're only up the road so if you want to have a look at either of the two doors let me know.

  8. The CSK is surprisingly compliant on A roads, not much cop off road though! Even the 4 door on air isn't too bad.

With regards manual-v-auto I don't find much in it, CSK is 4.6 manual and 4 door is 4.6 auto, they both seem fairly similar.
