  1. Does the galv chassis you have, have a chassis number on it..??? if it does, then you really need to use the identity that that chassis has already been used with, however, if it doesn;t have a number, i would say (and this is my opinion) that you could use it along with your registration......... lots of people will have different views no doubt, at the end of the day its your choice

  2. The flexi is like a conertina.... it has multiple rings as it were, allowing it to flex, i understand that the mesh is there to kind of stop it flexing too much........ the flexible bit isn't critical, and in fact the non catted front sections don't appear to have flexis.... if yours breaks, simply buy a decat one for £20.... and gain more performance aswell..:)

  3. You can fit the drop arm off a disco aswell, they have a track rod end instead of the daft ball joint thing.... you'll need, the arm, the drag link, (tube that goes from the steering box to the NS front wheel! and of course the track rod end for the box end.......... oh, and it means that your steering damper won;t fit on there either, but you can relocate that to behind

the axle as per the disco if you like.......

  4. It simply has to be a film prop, the military would want even a prototype to be better built than that, i mean, the 'cage' has no triagulation what-so-ever..... it would simply fold flat if you leant on it.... and i mean, its even sporting a FORD grill!!!!!!!!!!!!! the guy selling it either has a very good imagination, or he got conned when he acquired it...... and as for his wording in the listing, its a joke...!

If anyone is near Bridgewater or Taunton in somerset, they might wanna make contact with him and go for a look....LOL!!

  5. Indeed......... which means less cold starts, which makes the engine more economical, and means less wear....... so what fuel you use heating it up you probabl;y save in warm up time.....:)

I have a webasto on my 530d beemer..... only i disconnected it cos the brain told it never to switch off.... and it was draining the battery...!

  6. I would have though that having power steering should make no difference, it still has the steering box in the same place, still uses the same basic components to actually 'do' the steering, and i doubt that if you didn;t actually tell the inspector that they'd even know it didn;t have it before..!

  7. I did it with nothing more than an overheard gantry and chain block, the engine crane (which you will need for lifting enigne and tranny as one!) and an old oil drum

I lifted the bonnet off and removed the front panel, both front wings were still connected, I think I roped the bulkhead mounts through the engine bay to save the wings and then used the engine hoist as a leveller on the spare wheel carrier (my back door was knackered and survived) then used the oil drums to prop the rear tub while I used the enigne crane to swap transmission etc.

I think I could do it quicker than I did, I spent some time setting up my X arms and making those fit along with the springs etc. A simple like for like swap can be achieved even quicker.

I think I only disconned the chassis and engine electrical harness from the bulkhead, pulled the clutch slave cylinder out of the gearbox (left it bled ready to refit) undid the gear levers and hand brake, drain rad and removed that and intercooler. and Undid the brake feeds from the bulkhead (2 lines?)

Very little work, then obviously undid the body mounts, realised I had forgotten the gearbox electrical harness  and lifted the body off :):):D

I need to dig the pictures out of the process, all of it easy with a bit of scaffold, some clever thinking and not opening the doors while the body was up in the air :P

I changed all of it myself, had very little help from my old man, my work mates were stunned when it drove back into work on Monday morning :lol::lol:

Very interesting, so i could potentially save myself the cost of the telehandler, as i work for a bulider and i'm doing the swap while he's away over xmas, i'm sure i could persuade him to let me borrow a load of scaffold tubes and clips....... afer-all, he won;t be using them will he...LOL! Be good to see some pics.......

  8. I have rechassied mine, Richards stamped my number on before galving, I wrote a covering letter to my local office incl receipt and pic of chopped up old chassis, I had to take it to the local office where I filled in a form and it had a 15 min inspection (very thorough though, every number checked) new logbook identical to the old one arrived 2 weeks later, no hassle and all nice and legal

I asked Richards only last week if they could stamp my number into the new chassis i ordered, and they said it can't be done, as its illegal... so how come they did yours..???

  9. Did my chassis swap in 2.5days on my own. Body off in one hit no messing about, only bolts I replaced were the M8 x 25mm on the rear tub mounting bolts and the rear shock bracket bolts.

Good idea to soak everything with diesel before hand and worth buying a selection of jubilee clips :)

I'd be interested in how you went about it, i plan on doing mine over xmas, how did you lift the body?? i have bought another pair of bulkhead/windscreen brackets to drill right through, make some lifting eyes, and use a piece of 50x50 thickwall tubing under the rear floor for a lifting point at the rear, add one telehandler, and hey presto...... then swap everything over, and reverse the above........LOL.... sounds easy!

  10. Right Guys i thought i'd keep you updated on this slave cylinder...LR have agreed to give 50% off fitting the new slave ? JAMES EDWARDS CHESTER want £780 all in. independent £280 all in.... you work out the sums its cheaper for me to pay an independent in full than go halves with LR icon_rolling.gificon_rolling.gif robin T...s

True, however, the mere fact that Land ROver have offered to pay half, is them admitting liability...... if you get it fixed at an independant, LR won;t then be offering anything next time round.... god forbid it should happen again, but it is after-all a land rover.... so anything is possible...! for the sake of £100, i'd rather have land rover do it, and have their warranty on the job....

  11. In the real world my 530D estate is most definatelt up to the job, however, the law says something different......... i have several offers of borrowning a car trailer, but as the trailers are rated with a gross weight in excess of what the car is legally allowed to tow, it means its illegal for me to tow that trialer, EVEN EMPTY!! how stupid is that!!!.. but thats what the law says, and 500 miles is too far to risk it!!

  12. Yes i have ordered it, i have spoken to several people that have done chassis swaps, and pretty much all have said that richards is the better product, i'm sure there is actually nothing wrong with anyones elses chassis's, but the fact that richards redrill the holes etc is good enough for me....... and the lead time is less than i was expecting, plus it gives me time to find the money...LOL!!
