  1. The pushrods that I have with the damaged unleaded head are shorter than the rods off the 2a engine, there is approx 1.2mm difference so I am assuming that the shorter rods will be ok with the 8:1 second hand head from Paddocks Never thought that this would be so difficult to sort out!
  2. Trying to think about this logically I doubt if the pushrods can be shortened and wont any oversize cause by the reduction in head size be taken up by the tappet adjustment so the valves shouldn’t hold open, the geometry should be the same or am I missing something? People that I am talking to seem to have conflicting information?? please help
  3. it seems an 8:1 head will fit on a 7:1 engine but there is an issue with the pushrods, it is my assumption if the 8:1 has been skimmed then the standard rods will be to long, Paddocks only do 1 type so will i have to shorten the standard pushrods? or is there a custom size? thanks
  4. Thanks Paul, that is a very good offer which I may well take you up on, the only problem I have is it’s a 500 mile round trip with a trailer, please can I have a couple of days to think about it, if you get another offer please go with it
  5. it seems Paddocks only have 1 second hand 8:1 head left, apparently it will not go on a block that had a 7:1 head for some reason, can anyone confirm this please?
  6. it looks like ACR and Turner's have good products but I think they are a little too expensive for me at this time, I just need a runner at the moment, this may be where I go in the future when I go for a well tuned lump but then I may go for a TDi also
  7. it seems I can get the block honed rather than re-bored and the crank polished for about £100 so only need to look at the head issue
  8. I have been doing some research on here and the web in general, I don’t understand the difference between 7:1 and 8:1, I assume 8:1 is after the head has been skimmed so presumably it doesn’t matter what I fit other than it will affect the pushrod lengths (anything else?) I cant find the numbers starting 901 / 904 to determine the ratio all I have is 541874 on the block and 568750 on the head, are these parts numbers?
  9. My newly acquired Landy (petrol SIII) came with a cracked lump in situ, a cracked head in the back (which is a shame as it was an unleaded head) and the spare engine it came with also has a cracked head, the spare is a 3 bearing crank and has quite a lip on the top of the bore, otherwise looks ok, What would be the most economical / practical way forward? Try to find a second-hand head and have it machined New hardened head and machined block with all new pistons and rings etc Try new rings without matching the block and source new head Get a complete new engine from Turner engineering or another supplier (just looked at the price! £ 1895 is a little out of my budget) Or just Go for a conversion i.e. diesel or TD depending on if I can source an engine What are the drawbacks of a 3-bearing crank? Would it be a 7:1 or 8:1 or how would I tell this? Anyone any views (anyone want to sell me an engine or exchange one for an LPG kit?) ps is it a normal fault for the head or block to crack between 3 and 4?
  10. Thanks Phil, I understood that from the description, there are no ally bits in my existing window though so I don’t know what they are, all it has is the rusty channel, are these an accessory or are they required? do they fit on the door top, window or in the channel?

    oil bath

Does anyone have any suggestions for replacing the oil bath, I would like to run a snorkel and would like to know what mods people have done, I would like a good looking snorkel on this truck unlike my last one with a bit of drainpipe and ductape nail-up
  12. can anyone tell me what the Door Top Aluminium Glazing Kit (LR34A) from Paddocks is, the guy at paddocks said it just went on top of the door tops?? and pictures of them in situ would be appreciated thanks

    Brakes

I can’t actually get to my Landy to check this out for myself so I need to ask, will my 1977 SIII have imperial or metric brake fittings? thanks for your help
  14. I too had this problem a couple of years ago, I posted on the old forum, don’t know if it was copied over, I tried all of the fixes and in the end could rebuild the carb in my sleep, Paddock’s are doing the Weber carb for £75 plus VAT which will probably be a more cost effective fix at the end of the day
  15. Do you still need a license in the UK for a CB?
  16. does anyone know if "Cream, Pearl" was an original Series colour? I presumed the colour was Limestone and ordered a litre from Paddocks so you may see that up for grabs in the ad's
  17. been standing a couple of years so needs som TLC and requires an engine rebuild

    Safari

Thanks all for the replies, not really bothered about the authenticity just interested in the history, it has the safari door and the vents / sun visors in the roof Can anyone briefly tell me how to use an overdrive, never had one before, do you have to double the clutch or anything strange like that, will they work in 4wd or in low range etc? Thanks
  20. Have not got any links but seemed to remember seeing this type of rack before, after your reply I looked at the Safety Devices racks, I think they are probably what I was looking for, has anyone got one on their SIII or have a picture of one in situ? Any recommendation will be much appreciated

    Safari

can anyone tell me if an 88inch Safari would have the 3 clips either side of the tub for holding a tilt down? also would "Safari" be stated on the v5? I suspect mine is not an original Safari although it all seems to be original and matching, are there any other features other than the roof that a Safari should have? I will post a picture tomorrow thanks
  22. Hello All, long time no talk, just got myself a new truck and I need a bit of advice about roof racks, I have seen roof racks offering some rollover protection, are any of these available for a SIII? Can anyone recommend a supplier? Thanks
  23. Im down in sunny Herne Bay, thanks for the offer of the RRC, Ive never been a RR person, i am really looking for a Series (Tax exempt if poss) although i like the idea of a 110 county, or a 90 or another Disco or...... also I dont have a workshop that I can put a landy in so when I say project Im not looking to bob a RR or swap out chassis, I would prefer something running, rolling and legal at the very least no matter what the rest of it is like
