  1. The 110 has windy windows (and they even kind of work) as well as the lovely lift door handles. When did the one piece doors come into being and on what model? Not that it makes any difference to me just curious... Thanks for all the info...
  2. Yep the weight of the lump does worry me and I doubt I'll have any thing as sophisticated as your set up for up and down and in and out so it will definately be an event to watch... As for the n/s wing I'm hoping that whist difficult I will have done the required work, painting, prep and got the right bit (e.g. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...52BSI%26otn%3D4 ) to make it relatively simple Will most definately be asking as and when I cock up and need guidance! Thanks
  3. Most definately will be using some thing like this one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...52BSI%26otn%3D4 Yes the tightness of the near side fit does worry me The guy seems to have a good a rep so unless some one else has any suggestions or comments I think I will be another ebay customer - if only just for the swanky blue silicone pipes!. If I had the tools, suitable garage/work shop and experience to make them then I would but currently skilled enough Cheers
  4. That fits more with what I have found trying to get parts the 110 as it seems have some bits from the sIII - as you say the lift handle doors and ribbed roof. Also annoyingly it seems to have some oddities in the engine bay as well..but those sorts of anomolies will stop and all my dreams will come true when the 200 TDi goes in
  5. Thanks for the update on the Defender name Believe you me I would much prefer to have the nice cosy garage/workshop that alot of the forum members have if only to reduce the amount of time that I can't do any thing because is it pouring with rain! Cheers
  6. It just goes to show when you think about things too much you miss the obvious! Swapping the engine then going for a test drive and then doing the oils for axles and box, genius Yep as I'm in the garden a hoist is going to be the weapon of choice - a neighbour has one he said I can borrow which is nice and convenient The Shutz stuff I had never heard of before but a quick search on the web revealed the secrets so that is a definate possibity. Don't think I'll go for any thing on the floor in the cab as I don't want any thing else helping to rot my Landie If you mean Les' guide I have already printed that out ready to use so at least I have some one else to blame when some thing goes wrong! - not that I would Les Thanks for the assist much appreciated. Well I just hope all those who are the proud owners of 'working' Landies are going to be enjoying them (responsibly) in this GORGEOUS weather..
  7. Ah marketing and a badge..should have known they would try and get more money for the same thing . Thanks
  8. Hi I know you seem to have got the wash wiper thing sorted but I found this article about a cheap mod and it may be an alternative as I'm sure the parts will be easy to source.. here it is http://forum.landrovernet.com/showthread.p...r+wash+wipe+mod Hope it's of use Have fun
  9. Ok, I'm starting to get myself prepared for the transplant of the Disco 200 TDi into my 110 and wanted to ask for some advice. The 110 has been unloved and unattended for some time and when I tried to start it I remembered one of the reasons I am doing the transplant..the CAV fuel injection pump leaks so I can't get fuel to the injectors to start the engine.....which gives me a problem of how to drain long standing cold engine, gear box/transfer box and axle oils. Any ideas on how to safely warm those parts and drain the oils? - Some thing that it might be worth mentioning here is that the 110 is standing on my garden and not on any nice hard standing or in a garage or in the luxury of one of those swanky 'work shops' (just envy speaking there! ) Whilst I have the engine bay decluttered I was thinking of painting it and the chassis underneath? I presume Hammerite wouldn't be of any use because of the heat generated but what are the alternatives? Also probably a thing of personal choice I know but is it better to go for a light colour rather than a dark one - light colours I guess would show up mud, rust and oil escapes better? Is it worth taking the opportunity and adding sound deadening/insulation? I know there are a number of manufacturers so if any one has had good or bad experiences with any let me know which ones. All I can see is this job taking me ALOT longer than I expect it to...let's just hope we do in fact have that hot summer that the weather guys have been promising Finally I have been trying to get to the bottom of some thing since I acquired my 110. That is to say what is difference between a 110 and a Defender? Is there any? If so what is it/are they? Is the 110 just a throw off from the Series IIIs and live test before the Defender was born? Sorry is this shows my ignorance but I'd rather be told than never to have asked Thanks
  10. Well it was worth a try B) Thanks
  11. A neighbour asked me about the sat nav in his RR. He advised that it was a Becker ( a brand which I had not heard of - but then having a 110 that's hardly suprising ) he has the 2002 version of the CDs and wanted to get the revised version - I believe 2007? He was amazed at the cost he was quoted - over £125. My question is a simple one, without obviously breaching any copy rights, licensing issues etc does any one have the update available? Or does any one have a contact/site that does?? Thanks
  12. Thanks for that - looks like many hours of fun pouring over interesting facts and figures
  13. Hi Matt, In the 110 currently is the standard 2.5 N/A diesel - spent WAY TOO much on - should have cut my losses ages ago and put a Defender in ..ah hind sight..a wonderful thing. Defo do all the filters, belts, mounts etc. Another 'green horn' question, what are RAVE manuals? I'm sorry but until this excellent forum I'd never heard of them... but will definately dig them out as a reference tool.
  14. Hi, Yet another newbie topic which I hope is in the right forum - If not please move to appropriate location.... As soon as I can I will be transplanting the engine and transfer box from my 200 TDi Disco into my 110. I have the read Les' great build thread but have some basic questions to ask. When I start the job I want to have the appropriate tools for the task in hand rather than starting and then finding out that I need a specialist tool that's scarily expensive and only available when there is a partial lunar eclipse so after looking through the threads below: http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=41628 - Draper socket sets http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=38463 - Decent axle stands http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=5188 - tool sizes for specific jobs http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=40077 - A different take, eng handling http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=37657 - Screwdrivers http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=33966 - Torque wrench http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=35997 - General tools http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=24491 - Tool set recommendations http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=20181 - Halfords Pro tool sets http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=4754 - Tool help What tools, thread/not/bolt sizes, oil type am I going to need, replace and come across? Does a Haynes manual have any merit in helping with the build or service bits I'll do before putting the engine into the 110? I already have number of the basic tools that I already have like decent 4x4 trolley jack, angle grinder, not so cheap cordless drill, mains powered drill, a Halfrauds Metric/Imperial socket set, Draper spanners, a large heavy hammer, an even heavier hammer, chain and clamp type oil filter removal tool...now if I only knew how to use them properly Another point is that I don't have a nice concrete/solid floor for your drive way/garage/work shops you all seem to have so can any one suggest a safe and effective lift/hoist system? I had that of a suitably rated block and tackle used with scaffold poles? Cheers Also where does Whitworth fit into tools and sizing..very confused
  15. I have checked through a number of the forums including Tec archive and pinned topics to see if there was/is a related topic/thread and couldn't find one so I'll ask the following: When I have completed the modifications to my 110 - which will include the installation of power steering (thus reducing my need to be Mr Universe just to turn the steering wheel ) transferring the 200TDi engine from my Disco and probably the transfer box, what happens when it comes to going for the 110's MOT as the current one has expired? Do I just advise them that it has had power steering fitted or do I just let them open the bonnet and see if they notice any thing different? Are they likely to be more strict because of the mods done? Will the 110 have to have any other inspections/certification done before/after the MOT and what other official bodies need to notified to make sure it is all above and legal? I guess the insurnce company will need to be advised of the engine mod? Thanks for your time
  16. Sorry being new to the forum, what does contacting some one by PM mean? Like the look of the STeve Parker site so wil be giving that a check out. Thanks
  17. A Landie man near to me bought them and said they were good so will be definately giving them a look... Thanks
  18. Now that is a VERY GOOD IDEA! Will get onto that hopefully today.. Cheers
  19. Thanks for the topic link, that is the one that gave me the courage to go ahead and do the conversion! I suspect the turbo as being dead because I haven't heard that lovely whistle, economy is poor and the acceleration is alot less than it should be capable of delivering. If there is a more technical way of confirming it, I am all ears. Defo be using quality and or original parts (although as it now seems NO Britparts!) as I would rather do it right and just the once! Cheers
  20. A very big thank you to every one replied....I will try and put together pics and words of wisdom (if I can come up with any!). It makes it so much easier and a much nicer experience when knowledge is freely given.. Thanks again
  21. Hi, After reading through some very good articles on fitting a 200 TDi (Discovery) engine into a 110 I thought that I would take the plunge. At this point I think it worth saying that I am new to this level of mechanics and have so far limited my interference to the basics. What I am after is some advice on what maintenance/improvements I can do the 200 TDi engine before it goes into the engine bay of the 110? I currently have the complete Disco, so are there any parts that I can strip from the donor vehicle that will benefit the 110? As there is currently no power steering in the 110 I will be doing that as part of the engine refit along with the Disco transfer box. I will hopefully have some one with greater technical knowledge to assist me…hopefully. With all the changes I intend to upgrade to a heavy duty clutch kit (possibly Britparts) and clutch arm (again Britpart) – unless any one has an alternative manufacturer/supplier. Do I order the clutch kit and arm to fit the Disco (donor vehicle) or the 110? Or does it not matter? As the turbo is almost dead I was looking at getting it refurbished. I have also been told that there is a conversion kit that enables the turbo to be located higher up, like in the Defender engine, with the added bonus that it gives you a new turbo (and pipes) rather than a just refurbing the old one. Does any one know if this is worth while and if so a manufacturer/supplier? Greatly appreciate your time
