  1. Excellent idea..will do some grinding to give the improved access. Cheers
  2. Wow sounds good but I will have to improvise the heat side of things as the closest I can get to that is my wifes hair dryer and I don't think that it will generate the kind of heat you're talking about! I think I can do the lock nut side of things with the guide above. The lifting rings are sadly MISSING so I guess I'll have to see if I find/borrow some as I can't make any..not yet any way
  3. Great ideas and will give them a go and see if it works! Thanks
  4. I am doing the D1 200TDi engine conversion (the Les way) and have come to remove the down pipe held in place by the three nuts. In prep for removing them I have been spraying them with copious amounts of WD40 but the seem very eager to stay in situ. As I do not want to end up rounding them can any one suggest a way forward? Also how do I remove the studs once the nuts come off? Sorry if this is a sill question but I've never ahd to do it before Do I have to use a special tool/s? Also I need to lift the engine out soon but unlike on the 2.5 N/A diesel eng that came out I can't find any nice lift points any where. Are there any? If so where? All HELP GREATLY appreciated. Yours frustratedly CG P.S. If a mod wants to move it to a more appropriate place feel free
  5. If it helps I can take a pic (weather permitting) of my 110 rear exhaust hanger - it's nice and new. I'm doing a conversion from 2.5 NA diesel to a 200TDi (D1 engine). Exhaust system is from Steve Parkers. I don't think the hangers differ that much unless some one knows to contrary?
  6. Hey there fellow Newbie As you see you'll get LOADS of great advice from every one..been very useful for me.. CG
  7. Now that is another great idea...glad you rate the Gwyn Lewis kit too Cheers
  8. Great idea and cheap as you say too! Thanks
  9. That's another one for me then...just remind me later in the week
  10. Thanks Ralph. Knew some one who knew some thing would be along soon! Another set of purchases on the way then! Thanks
  11. You can rely on me to make mistakes!! Have no idea if they are as good as the witches hats but I'm sure a adult will be along shortly who knows whats what
  12. BINGO!! Knew there would be some thing stupid I had or hadn't done.. Thanks for that. Now when it stops snowing I'll give it ago and do it properly this time!
  13. OK, forgetting about the wind and the snow, I have been trying to remove one the rear springs and got NO WHERE fast (and cold ) I have jacked up the chassis and removed the wheel. I used a 4x4 trolley jack so it lifts nice and high. The axle did drop but the spring remained NICE and secure (yes I did remove the spring securing plate ) What am I doing wrong? I really need to get these done and if I'm struggling with the rears then it doesn't bode well for the fronts! HELP!
  14. Well I think Stilton is a better choice than trying to get a monkey wrench to stay still long enough
  15. I've got the the rear 3 positions mounts from Gwn and they're great. I had looked at those open turrets as well so I may yet do them when I get round to the fronts. Thanks
  16. VERY GOOD timing!! I did not know that and like you and the person who fitted the current shocks would have fitted the washers the wrong way round! I think that should go in the tech archive some where - Mods what do you think? BIG thanks for that bit of advice
  17. Well here's hoping I have a 5/16'' UNF!!! Cheers
  18. Yep not looking forward to doing the turrets! Thanks
  19. Well that's definately some thing to watch - especially never having had any experience of using spring compressors. I don't want to get BITTEN or loose space to get the spanner off!! Cheers
  20. Great news! I would want to put a pair stiltons over their lovely new and shiney yellow tubes! Thanks
  21. Yes the old have that so I'm hoping the OME one will have to as rhat will make it easier. I think that the flat bits at the end of the thread are called crows feet..learn some thing new every day that's my philosopy Thanks
  22. The old shocks and springs are standard. OME shocks and springs are pretty much standard - that is only 25mm lift. The witches hat is the probably the part that I'm not looking forward to removing only because the the mounts look sh*^^%d. I think that I'll just go at my speed rather than try and match a pro like you. Less likely to make silly mistakes that way . Thanks
  23. Thanks for that wouldn't have know and would have none the wiser why things weren't working as they are supposed to!
