  1. I haven't got round to fitting the fuel pump yet, so wasn't sure if it only working when the oil light goes out was a problem or not for starting.

A lot of the other guys have just wired it to the stop solenoid so it would run as soon as it sees the ignition switched on.

The button by the pump is just a silly idea ive been toying with to help with bleeding the system though is probably overkill and unnecessary

  2. Hi,

Im about to do the same thing to my 300Tdi Disco.

I am going to use the same Facet lift pump that you have listed here, I know is more expensive than some of the other that people have used but I liked the glass filter on the bottom of it and it has a good lift capability.

Wiring wise I will probably wire it up to the oil pressure switch with a trigger feed from the stop solenoid to a relay. Im concerned that it will then only pump when the engine is running, some fuel pumps have a "burst" of 12v given them when you first turn the ignition on to prime themselves. Will work that one out if it is a problem.

maybe have a manual waterproof push or momentary button near the filter or pump to prime the fuel system in the engine bay that works regardless of the engine being off

  3. Hiya!

Not yet. I'm on tour now so away from home till April. but Miriam has said there is a parcel from aus that I have to pay duty on before they will deliver so the pump has nearly got to me !!

Will fit it some time in April I guess

  4. Ive done this to two of my discos now. they are both 1997 300's last one was a V8 present one is a TDI

They both have single line callipers and was a straight swap. I changed from solid to vented discs at the same time. Much better brakes and I didn't notice the peddle being any different.

If it matters, they both have ABS and it still works as it should.

If you wanted to put standard front callipers on the rear Red do an adaptor plate.

  5. just another note that might help people (im waiting for my pump to come over from Aus at the mo)

Part number ETC 4799 is a blanking plate for the vacuum pump !! I ordered one from

Rimmers a while ago thinking it would be a plate to blank off the lift pump. so i got the wrong part but at the same time the right part !!!!

  6. I have a solution !!!

Andrew at allisport has just rung me back, apparently the later 300 Disco engine oil coolers do have M20 threads. 200tdi and some early 300's are 1/2"BSP.

Anyway, he is going to take my radiator back and re weld some AN10 fittings on it (for a small but i think very reasonable fee)

    happy bunny now

  7. Thanks its defiantly looking like M20. maybe its a 300 thing, weirdly the water side of it is all 1/2"BSP i.e the thermostat housing and the water side of the radiator...

The trouble im having with it being an M20 male thread on the oil cooler part of the radiator is the hose people dont do a m20 to AN10 hose fitting or adaptor. (with the M20 being female) I can get M20 to AN10 male -male adaptors so the engine end is sorted but not male -female adaptors;.

It's an allisport radiator so Ive been trying to get hold of them to confirm what thread they put on the rad / oil cooler but they dont answer there bloody phone !!!!

    grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  8. Hiya,

    Can anyone help ?

I thought I would replace my leaky oil cooler hose with some stainless hose.

The oil cooler is built into the side of the radiator.

    The disco is a 1997 300tdi.

I thought the threads would be 1/2"BSP so to test bought:

    1 x 1/2" BSP male to AN10 adaptor

    1 x 1/2" BSP female to AN10 adaptor

The male adaptor won't fit (even a little bit) into either of the hole/threads by the oil filter.

Bizarrely the female thread will fit the threads on the cooler, and the adaptors will screw into each other

Ive been chatting the the hose adaptor supplier ( they have been very helpful) and have sent them one of my old leaky oil cooler hoses and they think its an M20 1.5 thread..

    Does this sound correct ?

  9. I totally agree !

I did read the bit where you said your system switched on and was at pressure (well vacuum) and a pressure switch turned the pump off. looking again at the pump I found I see that there isn't a reservoir as such, so it's a pump only and pumps on demand....

I will have a look to see if I can find a pump like the one you have posted available in the UK

  10. Hi Iain,

One last question im afraid !!

Did you leave the old vacuum pump in situ or did you remove it ? I haven't looked at the thing on mine yet but am about to take the inner wings off (its a Disco) and have then finally sprayed as part of my renovation..

Im going to be removing the lift pump and blanking it off ( replacing it with an electric one) and thought whilst I was at it I would do the same for the Vacuum pump.....

    Cheers

  11. This is weird !

Ive just signed in to ask the same question !!

Im just in the process of getting a BT phone line C/W broadband installed into my workshop. mobile coverage is carp at the workshop which I thought was great when I first got there but now is just plain frustrating.

My workshop is fairly remote so loud sirens/bells won't alert anyone, although I do think a loud siren inside the workshop could serve as a deterrent and (if loud enough ) help to disorientate the thief (love Simons smoke canister idea)

was going to look for something that would alert me via phone and possibly have a camera system via the internet that I could record and see..

    any pointers would be great

    Andy
