  1. i'll check it tomorrow , i'll do my nut if it's that cos it's just cost me £50 for the injector clean , and thirty quid for oil and filter " again " , i'll rip the bugger out and tie it in a knot
  2. don't know who you are paul , i'm new to the forum , but best wishes anyhoo!!!
  3. still , i think i'll shorten the hose just to make sure . i'll check the dipstick aswell , but from memory is'nt there a bracket holding it to the engine , would it still slip ??
  4. got the injectors checked and cleaned and was told by the engineer that they were all slightly below spec but none of them was dripping , he has rechecked them all and they have been given a clean bill of health . while i was replacing then i noticed something that could be the reason for the oil level reading and i would like your opinion . the engine in my motor is from a discovery , and when you fit them , as your probably aware , you have to extend all the hoses including the oil cooler hoses . while replacing my injectors i noticed the hose that goes to the bottom of the oilcooler looks like it could be to long and "DROOPS " quite a long way below the level of the oil filter housing and the oilcooler . i'm now wondering if there was still oil in the hose when i last changed it . i know it may sound far fetched but i cant for the life off me think of anywhere else it can be coming from . remember i've already replaced the lift pump with a new one , and i now know it's not the injectors . ohh and i asked my m.o.t fella what he thinks and he's sure it's not diesel in the oil as the smell shoud be quite strong . i'm open to all opinions and ideas , cos i'm no diesel expert as i grew up messin with petrol engines
  5. i may have a go with the pump tweek at some point , sounds like it should be better . the trouble is i get a bit paranoid about things like that i've changed the air filter and replaced it with a pipercross cone thing , (ya know one of them boy racer things ) and that made a big difference on it's own , but i may have to rethink that because i'm starting to go greenlaning and i need a snorkel ,don't like the idea of a big sponge under my bonnet , i quite fancy the full width intercooler , which one did you use ? and where did you fit it .
  6. sounds like i've got basically the same running gear as you then ,and i'm a few hundred kilos lighter , it keeps up with my mates 300tdi defender ok so maybe it's just me i've considered a pump tweak but i'll leave that till i find someone i can trust to do it .
  7. i know what you mean about gear changes i drive wagons for a living and i do get sick off changing gears all the time , i tend to keep my landrover in 3rd around town when i can and as long as i keep the turbo spinning its ok . my speedo seems ok up to about 50 and then its way out, but i think the cable is knackered so its having a new one aswell .
  8. i agree , its' the same with with the 200tdi don't use 5th gear that much and running round town i just need 3rd and occasional 4th , it doe's pull well though when it's warmed up probably matches the engine revs better when the turbo kicks in . how doe's your speedo match up to your actual speed have you checked it ???
  9. it sounds like i may be better off dropping back down to the 1.410 then , does it matter whether i use the 13d or the 22d i don't suppose theres any gear difference then .
  10. will do western !!! check my other question in the international forum and see if you can help with that one !!
  11. cheers western , it sounds like that could be the problem i'll sort it tomorrow . thanks for the help ....
  12. someone else said that today but i've never heard of it before so i dismissed it ( i guess i'm wrong ). how would i check which one it is ? and would'nt that make it difficult to start and or smokey on start up ?? and i've just thought , it's oily around number one injector , could it be it's broke that copper seal thingy at the bottom of the injector and its not burning the fuel ??? forgive any stupid questions i could post as i'm not big on diesel's just yet , i grew up working on petrol engines and i'm having to rethink stuff .
  13. i have a question for someone who knows about gear ratios and the like , cos i can't work it out i'm in the process of changing the gearbox on my 90 ( lt77 ) and i have the choice of 3 transfer boxes and i don't know which one to use . i have a 90 with a discovery 200tdi conversion , a standered lt77 gearbox , standered diffs , but i'm running 33-1250-15 mt tyres . fitted to it now is a disco 1.222 transfer box ( 28d ) , but i have a 22d- 1.410 and a 13d- 1.410 . i realise the last two are the same ratio but why the different model numbers ?? as it is now with the disco 1.222 it does seem a little high geared at low revs but it pulls like a train when the turbo wakes up . i'm not after f1 performance , ( if i was i would'nt have a landrover ) and i'm not bothered about speedo readings ( we can sort this out later ) . but i would like a good compromise if possible . and can somebody explain what the numbers mean cos i'm not sure !!! . it's a bit like sheet music , i know what it is but i don't know what it says . also , got me one of those x brake disc handbrake thingy's today B) B) and boy does it look good , i don't even care if it works or not i have to be honest and tell you that i almost licked it doe's that make me sad or what !!!!!
  14. i've got a couple off questions to ask and the first one has me stumped .( i'll post the other question later ) a couple off weeks ago i noticed that my oil level had gone up and seemed a little watery , so i assumed it was the lift pump that was faulty and changed it for a new one , gave it a good service ( oil ,oil filter and for good measure i fitted a new fuel filter aswell ) . and due to the fact i check my oil level every couple of days i assumed there was no damage done . all was well until i checked it today and saw the same thing . the engine doe's not appear to be breathing either through the oil filler cap or the dip stick but there is a little bit of oil on top off my rocker cover ( not loads, but it is wet ) . the engine doe's not smoke either on start up or under load and it's not using any water . my question is , is there any other way for fuel to get in to my engine oil or is it possible i've just got a duff lift pump. bye the way the engine performs as normal and doe's not appear to be using more fuel . and it's a defender with a disco 200tdi conversion .
  15. yer know , i could tell you were a good man will he's probly ashamed of himself having to depend on you ......... shame on him !! so whats " challenging" then ? i had a quick browes around and it seams alot off people on this forum compete in some form or another .
  16. ohh will , tell me about your welding . only joking , mines £r&p aswell ,............. ermm ....i mean .......erm .. i'm not saying yours is .....ermm .ohhhh
  17. " woops " oh dear , have i tripped over me gobb again ???????? what did i say this time ???
  18. am i right in thinking you race with yours ? if so then i don't need to go that far i just fancied the idea off an auto , i think the best way is to stick with what i have and order a lt77 . as for the tyres , well , i rebuilt the landrover from scratch , new chassis and wot not , and i lifted it 3inch so i need some that will fill the arches but not catch on anything . i've been checking around and looked at 33" and 35" but i think 35" will be too big so it's gonna be 33" muds , not sure about the brand yet but i don't need anything too extreme , i'll have to wait and see .
  19. fair point fridgefreezer, i had'nt planned the tyre debate it just slipped out
  20. i'd be up for that if anybodys willing , i'm in bolton if anyones local , just north off manchester . i'd love to see what these are capable off . like i said i'm not new to landrovers just offroading . i'll update my profile .
  21. £3500 for a fitting kit ????? what the hell are you fitting ?? a nuclear reacter , good lord man the wife would kill me to death , mine's cost in total about 7/8 thousand and a load off grief from her indoors . suppose you'r into all that extreme stuff then ??? and heres me wittering on about driving down slippery slopes . speakin off tyres , i'm checking out some bigger ones for mine , wheres the best place for them then ??? i've got two weeks to buy some cos she's on holiday and she may not notice when she gets back !!!!
  22. ermmm ????.. i just checked that and......there appears to be somebody called ashtrans ..... and ..erm .. sounds like it could be ... ermm no it can't be, can it ??.... ???? phewww, it's a good job i did'nt say owt bad then !!! it's not them is it ??? no , your avvin me on !!
  23. ok people , i've made up my mind , i think i'll stick with the lt77 . due to the fact that at this point in my offroading stage it really doe'snt matter i still have to learn new driving techniques . ( and i'll be £rap what ever gearbox i use ) . better i stay on me wheels with what i know than on my roof with the best gearbox . is ashcroft the best place to go for my box or is there anywhere else ? seams alot cheaper than i thought it was going to be !!!
  24. don't you like tdi's then jules , if i'm honest i'd have a v8 if they did'nt use so much fuel . the other reason is i'm new to this offroading lark and i don't like the idea off all that petrol under my arris . i'm allergic to fire , brings me out in hives !!!
  25. thats wierd , i went to bed last night thinking this was a good idea now look whats happened i've got up this morning and now i'm thinking i should stay manuel still , it's not urgent but it's gonna need doing so i think i'll bite the bullet and sort out an lt77 . the ironic thing is , about 6 months ago i bought a cheep 200 disco with a blown head gasket and that was auto , fixed the gasket and doubled my money B) B) did'nt know they were rare though , (what a pratt ) as for the very , very , large sums off money , well , i'm already there . as i said in the other bit i'm not new to landrovers i 'm just new to offroading and green laning . i've been building mine for the last year or so and it's cost a fortune infact i got most of my inspiration from this forum , for example i've just rebuilt my front axle , ( new swivels and the like , i copied the run through from white 90 / or les henson (can't remember which) and i swapped my transfer box to 1.22 from info on this forum . even my 200tdi conversion was reshearched on here , thats why i came her about the auto box thing . infact if you remember les henson / white 90 , i asked about you doing a run through about rebuilding an lt77 box for this very reason . so as you can see , i don't mind getting in there and doing what's needed B) B) but i think i'll stay manuel for now . could be a good idea to have a poll don't you think auto / manuel . anyone know how to do it ??
