  1. I'm not in any way an expert but i would be thinking about what would happen in a head on collision. All the force of the person in the seat will be directed on the seat back and the ratchet that holds it upright. In a forward facing seat all the force goes into the seat belt therefore the person in the back would crush the front passengers. I would be thinking of bracing the top of the seat back in some way.

  2. Hi there, i would like your thoughts on wether you lot think a beginner welder like myself should invest in one of these to fix the sills, rear arches and rear body x-member. I was going to save up and get a Mig welder which my bro inlaw can teach me use and i'm told Mig's better for welding panel work. I won't be doing anything with the chassis as cautioned earlier in this thread. As you guys say it is a real bargain but if it's not suitable for the job (or a begginer) then it's 30 quid better spent elsewhere.

    Thanks Kris

  3. Hi lads.

Just a thought that i aint seen a Hemi in a Landie. I've seen the Chevy LS engines in but not the Chrysler Hemi's. While on holiday in the states a year or so ago i had a Chrysler 300C with a 5.7 Hemi V8 in it and really liked the noise. I would think a Defender with an SRT8 6.1 would be very nice.

If there aren't any can anyone give any thoughts on why the LS1 engine is used over it.

    Thanks Kris

  4. Thanks for the support guys :) . Of course you are right. Don't know what got into me thinking about quiting  . If i ever talk like that again you have my permission to come round and slap me in the face (If am home, usually away in Hotel Volvo during the week :P ).

ThreeSheds- You can't be that far away from me if your near M1/M62. I'm originally from South East Leeds but i live in Wakey now.

Thanks again, a rejuvinated Kris

  5. Thanks for the advice ThreeSheds  .

At this rate there will be no original metal left on my Rangie  . This is to go on top of replacing the rear floor/rear X-member/both sills and patching the outer rear wheel arches on the C post :( . All this before i can turn my attention to other faults such as cruise inop/heated elec seats and door mirrors inop/ new rear exhaust/ fixing cross threaded manifold bolts/ unexplained battery drain/ bent steering rod and damper/ 4 new tyres/ replacing several worn bushes..... the list goes on :rtfm: .

I'm very tempted at the mo to just give up and break her and save up for a P38 but i just can't bring myself to break my 1st Landie  , plus she's an LSE, although i'm not sure how rare they are at the mo. I don't want to kill one of a limited number.

Sorry for the rant :offtopic: but i'm a bit depressed and daunted at the moment  .

    Thanks again Kris.

  6. Hi there, you will prob have seen the rot on my Rangie from my other posts.

I went digging again today and didn't like what i found. Holes in the bottom of the sills under the A and C posts, both sides. A big hole on the inside of the n/s A post in the foot well. Strangely the rest of the sills and all the floors are solid. From looking at Orange's Rangie i think all this repairable with time.

The real killer for me tho is the rot i found round the n/s/f body mount were the back of the inner wing meets the bulkhead. Now the inner wing i think i could have done but the bulk head i think is too much as i think this would mean the dash out and alot of other complications. Please correct me if it's a job on a par with sills/rear X-member/inner wing etc but i seriously doubt it. The only other option is to plate round it but i'm almost certain that you lot will comfirm my worst fears and tell me thats a no no.

If so i think i will have an a 93 LSE up for breaking.

Thanks for your advice, a very depressed Kris.

  7. Hi there :) , just posting some more piccys of my rusty Rangie  . I don't think it's that bad judging some of the pics of others i've seen  . I'm thinking of new rear cross member and floor (obviously  ) and plating up the other holes i have found. Again all comments are appreciated.

    Thanks Kris.

  8. The rest of her isn't too bad from what i can see on the outside (I'm no expert  ) ie the sills etc...

There is a small hole near the N/S/F mounting point on the inner wing and a bit of bubbling near the bottom of the door jams.

The back end is the only thing that really stands out at the mo. I will take more piccys next weekend so you can see.

    Thanks Kris

  9. "Why the different springs on LH and RH Front?"

To compensate for the weight of the driver, as usually the vehicle is occupied by driver only. Especially if he's a of a FB

Aaah (lightbulb above head moment  ). I'll need a really strong spring for me then (Truck drivers bum :P )

    Thanks Kris

  10. ^^^

Sorry didn't mean it like that :)

Unfortunately there are a large number of rip off merchants,

Cr*p parts manufactuers and similarly suppliers peddling stuff

that is near junk, do a search on 'Britpart waterpumps' as a example :o

Springs are often dimissed as just curly things fitted underneath and forgotten

not so - the poundages / length and varinats between minor model differences is staggering

yet some muppet companies do a "One size fits all for 5p" type nonsesne and rip people off

with sh*te - some Genuine stuff is remarkably good value too, some cheaper than the pattern junk

because people think Genuine = fortunes, not always so.

There are a few other decent sping manufactuers - Old Man Emu IMHO is one of the

very best - but they are not cheap, poss more than genuine, but damned good, but

springs is something that IMHO you should get right, so research is key coupled with what

    you are trying to achive.

Sorry if my soap box clipped your ear  not intended :) . You are however right about this forum

there are a very large number of Members who frequent here with a miriad of Skills and Knowledge

and you'll always get unbiased help and advice :)

    Nige

no prob m8 :) , i would rather hear your honest opinions and suffer an ear bashing so long as i learn something  .

  11. OK to clear a little confusion and obfuscation, this is what I had fitted to both my RRC V8 and my Dad's RRC V8, both ended up a bit higher (maybe 1") with a decent ride and handling. The springs came from Paddocks and cost about a tenner each. I had Monroe shocks, dad had standard £5 shocks.

    The parts book says:

NRC4304 - Spring, rear, Police Spec, Red/White Stripe

NRC2119 - Spring, front, RH, Diesel. Green stripe.

NRC4305 - Spring, front, LH, Diesel. Red/yellow stripe.

Maybe not the definitive combination but I can say it definitely does work.

Why the different springs on LH and RH Front?

    Thanks Kris

  12. ^^^^^

Read the post, there is no such thing as "Police spec fronts"

Anything cheap / non genuine / britpart etc is also liable to be "Variable" on tolerances

if you want exactly the right lift of 170lbs / 17.19" etc then buy Genuine you know then exactly what

you are getting and not some cheap sh*te. I doubt the Police Buyers said oh look Police spec

springs and they are only 3d thats a huge saving on Genuine LR stuff, they will be perfect and last well

If you are after springs for a specific purpose then they have to be either Genuine LR or Old man Emu IMVHO

anything else sort of tends to have the issue of being about as good as a Chocolate Dpistick so when they sag

after 6 months or don't level up when shoved on and the supplier says "What do you expect ?" you'll get

    what you pay for

Of Course now I'll have a plethora of I bought Brits**te springs for my Rangeovery and they are wickid type replies

I have lost count over the years of how many people I have seen / known throw cheap non genuine / OME spring in

the skip with the "Never a F gain" type comments, but hey ho what do I know :)

    Nige

Guess i'm showing i'm a newbie at this, that's why i joined this forum so i only make an ass off myself on here and not out n about with my landie.

Big learning curve for me. I'll try not to embarass myself again.

  13. Hello.

Saw a few time ago a post from someone talking about some hd/police spec springs.

I need to buy some for my RR, and i need the reference of the springs

Anyone has that info, or know where i should look?

    thanks!

Found a set of Police spec springs at M&M 4x4. They sell the fronts and rears seperate too. I was thinking about puttinfg these on my LSE when she's solid.
