  1. Hi, I was looking on the web for the correct fan belt for my 2.5 N/A. I am confused because some sellers state that the standard belt wont fit a military model. I have a very early Ex-MOD 90 with a 2.5 N/A. It is a FFR moddel and has three different pulleys on the crank and the fan belt is on the innermost one. The existing belt is marked "Dayco 11A1025C" and "8 363163". Cheers, Tomas
  2. Hi, I need to replace the bottom hose on my early 90 (SALLDVAC7AA264476) but I am a little confused. As I will order thru the mail I want to get it right. It has the three-piece type with a metal T-connector for the expansion tank. Is it possible to replace it with the one-piece type? I would prefer the one-piece type. So, whats the parts numbers for one-piece alt. three-piece hose? Cheers, Tomas
  3. Hello, I am about to change the timing belt on my 2.5 N/A. The workshop manual recommends using a dial type torque wrench, which I neither have or can afford to get. What I have is this: The workshop manual says: Set a dial type torque wrench to 20.0 to 23.5 Nm (21 to 17 Ibs ft) My wrench is graded 0-140 lbs foot. Question: can I use it, will it be close enough? Cheers, Tomas
  4. Hello, I am tired of my battery box filling up with mud and want to close of the ventholes. But the box needs to be ventilated in some way, anyone got any ideas? I was thinking that I might attach a hose of some sort and lead it to a suitable point. Newer Defender the ECU in there dont they, so they must (?) have solved it somehow? Cheers, Tomas
  5. Or as a budget alternative to the Disco axle, I could keep the original axle and just change the swiwel housing to one with an arm for the tie rod? problem is that I havent been able to find which ones will fit my Ninety. Could I get just the swiwel housing from a Disco I, will it fit on my axle? Cheers, Tomas
  6. Hello, I have a 1984 Ex-MOD Ninety (SALLDVAC7AA264476). It is RHD but I want to convert it to LHD. I have a pretty good idea about how to do it, the problem is sourcing parts as early Defenders are very rare in Sweden where I live. Discoverys on the other hand are plentiful. I was thinking I could get an Disco I and get all the parts I need from it. I am planning to get the complete front end, including axle, brakes, steering and so on. (Another plus with this solution is that I can later swap over the 200tdi and power steering too, at no extra cost...) Question is, will it fit? Cheers, Tomas
  7. I had a bonnet mounted 235/75-16 on my old 110, no problem with parking and driving. I am 180 cm 90 kg in good shape and I thought the weight was a bit annoying, but bearable. A smaller person would find it unacceptable I think. Cheers, Tomas
  8. OK, I was reading the workshop manual an got the impression it was. But what about the oil seals? What symtoms do I get if they are bad? Cheers, Tomas
  9. OK, so I slept on it an thought some more... I might just put it back together as you suggested, but if I do decide to renew the guides do I also have to get new valves? I mean, should you always changes both, or are the construction such that the wear is on the guides? Also, what happens when the valve guide oil seals fail, what are the symtoms? Cheers, Tomas
  10. Thanks Les, if you say so I might do that. This is my first post but I have read a lot of your posts/articles. As a a matter of fact a used a printout of your "2.5 N/A head gasket replacement" when I removed the head :-) Cheers and thanks again, Tomas
  11. Hello, I am in the process of doing a budget rebuild of my cylinder head, budget meaning I dont want do replace anything unless its absolutley neccecary. I checked the wear in the valves by pulling them out 1 cm and then tried to move sideways. The big ones (exhaust?) had a noticable movement, so those needs doing. The small ones (inlet?) had no noticable movement. First question: Is this method good enough? Second question: what do I need to do to fix the bad ones (minimum, budget remember)? BTW, the engine is a 2.5 N/A Cheers, Tomas
