  1. Thanks for the offer, but it's a bit of a trip from France
  2. I just want to hear someone say 'I've had my b'''p''t viscous unit for 10 years and it's never given me any problems'
  3. Received the unit today and to my dismay......it's in a.....blue box !!!has anyone got any good words to say because I'm in two minds.
  4. It's a 300tdi so the the viscious fan is on the timing cover plate idler pulley, but i presume it's the same procedure,i just wanted to be sure that the plastic fins could easily be separated from the viscious unit.
  5. So I take off the plastic fins and replace the viscious unit (Part No. ERR2266) correct ?
  6. Is any freeplay in the fan bearing tolerable ? If I hold the fins at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock ,and wiggle there's about a 1-2 mm of play .
  7. This morning before starting the battery voltage was 12.52. The battery is a 70 AH 640 A, Which doesn't take up too much space in the battery compartment I'm thinking it might be a bit on the light side for a 300 tdi,I remember the the previous owner told me it was new,I think he may have got the best buy and just stuck it in.
  8. What are the main battery specifications for a 300tdi ? and what's the ideal battery voltage before start-up (what should it be first thing in the morning ?)
  9. The starter turns (cranks)slow,if i jump with two batteries and the starter turns fast will that indicate a problem with the battery.
  10. a-yes b-yes c-yes Oh and i forgot to add that the starter motor is sluggish even when the engine is warm, although a little bit less than on first start-up.
  11. My 300 tdi has never started on the first turn of the starter thankfully it has always started All the glow plugs are good, and so is the battery, from what i've dug up on here it could be an earthing ?.... solenoid.... issue
  12. This might sound a bit daft, but i'm not sure weather my 1998 110 def has got a handbrake 'on' light on the dash panel.Should it have one ? if so why isn't it working ? where should i look ? I've never thought about it before because everything is so spartan in a defender
  13. Yeah i suppose your right,it just plays on my mind a bit,not knowing if it's been done or not.
  14. My 300tdi runs ok,it's got 220000 kms? the thing is i'm not sure if it's HG has ever been replaced.I had a look and it has the 3-hole one, this is the thickest before the no-hole one,can i presume that the HG has been replaced during the life of this engine ?
  15. Removed the deviation from multiplug to flasher unit ,restored original configuration. Loose connections. Sorted. Thanks
  16. Thanks Western ,there was definitely a siren I've still got the button on the small dash panel and the wiring is sticking out the roof,so it's quite possible this car had the whole emergency package i.e flashing headlamps e.t.c. The silver unit is not powered but there are 2 spare spades where i presume power must have been. The cap just unscrews with another metal cap underneath,i'll post pics. Keep the ideas coming I need to get the car back on the road. What if was to do away with that silver unit I've got no use for it ! could stick all the wires in a dominoe ?
  17. Oh no i was afraid of that ,the car was previously owned by the french gendarmarie. Its got 8 spades on it the 3 earths and 3 blue wires from the light switches and an earth that attaches to the the strap that holds on the wiper motor are all attached to it. I want to eliminate this from the cause of my light problem. How can I be sure it's not the switch/stalk ? any advice would be appreciated-I'm no good with electrickery.
  18. I'm trying to retrace all my steps the only thing I touched when i did the wipers was a tin metal bottle shaped thing that's attached to the wiper motor strap it's got 3 pairs of yellow and blue wires going into it,remember mines a lhd so this may be found on the other side on a rhd, anyway all the wires into it seem well connected.i'd like to know what it is.It's screwed into the bulkhead.
  19. How can i test to make sure it's not a switch/stalk issue ? and is there another relay for the lights apart from the one that's indicated on the back of the fusebox cover ?
  20. Yesterday i succesfully sorted out my wiper problem by taking the motor out with driveshaft and adjusted the wheel housing all went well apart from crimping the driveshaft tube ,that's another story.I put everything back together only to discover that i don't have any lights only flash main beam nothing else !!!! good job i work nights that means i can use the misses car.
  21. Thanks westaern i was looking at the point where the air duct pipe leaves the wing intake and goes down to a kind of dead end T then another air pipe goes back up again (sorry if that's a bit vague)
  22. Do you mean the actual plastic ejector , or the hoses ?i recently took the whole assembly off, cleaned the ejector in vinegar it was dirty and i replaced the hoses myself.
  23. I'll give it a go,but the plastic feels quite firm I may have to undo both jubilee clips on each side and take the whole bit off.
  24. I've been feeling my fanny but it's got a cap on it,i tried to twist it off but was unable to .How do i open my fanny ? I want to let the moisture out !!!
