  1. Just a quick question I hope. Tonight I was having a look at my rear diff to find the source of an oil leak. The leak appears to be coming from the front of the diff so I suspected the input oil seal so I took the prop and drive flange off and noticed the input shaft has a lot of play so I assumed the bearing has collapsed, but when I put the flange back on and tightened it up the play had gone. So my question is does the input shaft have a tapered bearing or has it collapsed? Vehicle is a 1989 90 Thanks, Raymond
  2. Not sure if it's much help but if you search for trailer or trailer hire there's a company advertising hire for £50 a day based in the Scottish borders area
  3. If your in a hurry to get the parts theres a place called RDH landrovers up in the tomintoul area. You could give him a try ive been to him a few times and he usually has most parts in stock and if not he might have an engine sitting he could take them out of to get you going. 01807590718 is his number. Raymond
  4. Sorry my landy. its just what we tend to call them where im from Thanks for clearing up that they cant be mounted on there side. So what i think i'll do is go for the 3rd one as ralph says, since i dont need to run 2 batteries or a split charge system as i dont intend to enter challenge events. And instead of making a hatch to get to the battery i think it will be easier to use anderson connectors mounted to the seat box if i need to jump it and just have to take the seat out for the rare occasion that i need the battery out. I was just mainly wondering what the differences were between the first 2 as they both have the same figures but i think the 1 bigger battery will be the solution. raymond
  5. Hi, im in need of a new battery for my defender and ive read good things on this forum about numax batteries so i was looking at either of these 3: http://www.tayna.co....24MF-P3126.html http://www.tayna.co....-Amp-P7632.html http://www.tayna.co....31MF-P3694.html Which 1 would you guys recomend? I use my jeep for pay and play days and other off roading but no serious competitions. The jeep is an 89 defender 90 with a disco 300tdi and a 100amp alternator and a goodwinch tds 9.5 winch plus 2 large spot lights. Does anyone know if these can be mounted on there side cause im planning putting in heated seats out of a mondeo i have lying around and making a small hatch in the side of the seat box to get to the terminals? whats your opinions? think the 3rd 1 is a bit ott for what i need? Raymond
  6. Hi, I live in Keith and its not easy to find places up here to go but have you heard of experience 4x4 up in Inverness? Its a 40 acre site with a course to go round and set a side bit where you can just do what you want. We've been there before and was good fun up until I broke my rear diff and twisted a half shaft. If your interested thier web site is http://www.experience4x4.com/index.html they have a facebook page aswell. Heres a link to our photos and vids of our last trip. http://s91.photobucket.com/albums/k317/hammoj28_2006/Experience%204x4%20Inverness%20201110/ http://www.youtube.com/user/p1ngu32#p/u/7/zNwLhRDwcZ4 http://www.youtube.com/user/p1ngu32#p/u/6/rzmHy5RmVFE Apart from here im not to sure where else you can go legally or without upsetting any body but if anybody knows any where else I would like to know as well. Raymond
  7. perfect i'll go have a look for it now. Thanks!
  8. Hi ive done a search and couldnt find it so could some please tell me where i can find the engine number on a 300tdi. I need a new front crank seal so i went to my local parts place and they told me i need either the engine number or chassis number because there are 3 different seals. i couldnt give them the chassis number because its a disco engine ive put in my defender so if anyone could tell me where to find it or if anyone had an engine number that would work that would be great. Cheers, Raymond
  9. Hi folks, I have just blown my rear diff on my 90 and a friend of mine has a offered me his diff off of his rangerover classic. Im wondering if someone can tell me if the ratio's of the two diffs are the same aslong as there both 10 slpine or is there any differences between them? Or would it be worth while changing over the whole axle cause ive not had a look at it yet but im assuming the rangee axle would have discs apposed to the drums on my landy? Also are the brake lines etc on the two the same or is there different parts needed? My landy is a f reg '89 if that helps. Im unsure of the age of the rangee but i can find out if need be. Thanks, Raymond
  10. Booo. Hehe. Wondered if it was you.lol

  11. thats just the info i was looking for thats it running now. cheers, raymond
  12. Hi i am currently fitting a disco 300tdi engine into my defender and i have come to the stage of plumbing up the fuel pipes, but because i bought just the engine and not the doner vehicle i dont know where each pipe connets to. Ive tried searching a few forums but cant find anything. Does anybody have a picture of their lift and injector pump that they could label which is the feed's and return's for me please. It would be a great help if somebody could. Or if any one has a picture of how they have plumbed up their conversion using the defender filter that would be useful to. thanks, raymond
