  1. Hi, no I havnt found the problem. I took it to a land rover mechanic the other day and I couldnt get it to make the noise which is typical. It only happens to my defender when turning left at low speed pulling off. And it's intermitent. I have a suspicion it's either to do with the clutch or the power steering box. If you find out what it is you'll have to let me know because it's doing my head in. Does your noise happen when pulling off to the left?
  2. Hi. I have a Td5 90 and my fuel pump runs constantly when I turn the ignition on if this is any constelation. My exhaust is also sooty and I dont have the EGR removed. Regards
  3. Hi. I seem to have the same problem on my 51 plate defender 90 county. How is it possible to jack the landy up and spin each wheel to check the brakes. I don't have any axle stands. Just the standard jack? Thanks.
  4. Hi all. The central locking on my 2001 90 locks the door but doesn't open it. I've just stripped the door card off and had a good look at it and it seems to not be pulling the lock open far enough when I press the fob to open it. I seem to think its the black plastic motor not pulling it back far enough. Is it more likely to be that rather than the actual lock mechanism itself if it opens fine by hand and with the key? Just wondering before I go ahead and order a new one. Thanks Terra Dog
  5. Ive checked the wheel bearings and there is no play in any of them so I presume they are ok. And if it was the UJ would it only happen when turning left? I'm pretty certain the tyres are tubeless. Thanks
  6. Hi all. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what could be causeing the rubbing noise on my standard 2001 Td5 County 90 Defender. It happens when I pull off to the left in first and second but doesnt happen when turning right and pulling off. It almost sounds like the tyre rubbing but it's not the tyre. And when I hear the sound it's Rub Off Rub Off Rub Off until upto about 30mph and the on off rubbing gets faster as I pick up speed but goes away after about 30mph. Any ideas of anything I could check for? Thanks Terra Dog
  7. Thanks for the replies guys. The puller off ebay is on its way. I'm in no rush anyway.
  8. Hi again. Could anybody tell me which steering wheel puller I need to get from looking at the photos of my steering wheel. Also the bolt holes seem to be M6 thread if that's any help? Thanks Terra Dog
  9. It's ok I've found the right one on eBay. Thanks guys. Terra Dog.
  10. Thanks for the replies. How does the steering wheel puller work? Could you send me a link to one on eBay please? Thanks.
  11. Hi all. In order to replace the Indicator arm/switch on my 2001 Defender 90 I need to remove the steering wheel which I attempted the other day. The only problem is I couldn't get it off the steering colum after undoing the nut which holds it on. Is there any trade secrets to getting it off. I pulled with all my might but to no avail. I even tried hitting it with a hammer. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Terra Dog.
  12. Thanks for the reply. I've just sussed it out. You have to turn the key clockwise then back, whilst cap is out, then put it back in and turn till it clicks without the key in like you say. Hey presto, it locks! Saves people from syphoning my tank. Thanks
  13. Hi all, this may sound like a stupid question, but i've recently brought a Td5 90 and i'm having trouble locking the diesel filler cap. When I tighten the cap clockwise it clicks, then when I put the key in and turn clockwise and back again (because it wont come out when fully clockwise) it does'nt seem to lock, it just comes undone again. Does anybody know the procedure for locking it? Sorry for the dumb question. Terra Dog
  14. Hi, thanks for the replies. I dont think the warranty will cover it. I think i'm just going to leave it and see how it goes. It doesnt do it that much and hardly at all when warmed up.
  15. Ok thanks for the replies guys. I think i'll get it a coat of looking at the weekend by the local landy garage.
  16. So I should just leave it alone then or will it get alot worse? What problems can towing a horse box etc... do to a vehicle mechanically?
  17. I'm pretty sure the ujs have been greased before I picked it up because it's had a full service prior to buying it. And I checked the props earlier tonite and there is fresh grease on them. Might still be worth investigating them because i've done about 150 miles since they were greased.
  18. Is the clutch release bearing and the thrust bearing two different things? Would towing cause premature wear? How much to repair or should I leave alone till gets worse? It wasnt doing it when it was warm in the week. Thanks
  19. Hi all, I havnt been on LR4x4 for ages due to the fact i had to sell my old 200tdi Defender to make way for the new baby. Any way I have now bought a new 2001 Td5 Defender less than a week ago. It has only covered 34000 from new with service history to prove. The reason i'm posting is because I have noticed a strange noise when engaging reverse and 1st. It is a low pitched squeling/grinding noise which goes away when I let the clutch out and pull off or disingage the gear. Could this be the thrust bearing or is it more serious? Also I am thinking that the landy has be used for towing as it has a tow bar. would this cause any premature wear on the thrust bearing or gearbox? Luckily the landy comes with 6 months warranty. Any help and advice would be appreciated. Thanks Terra Dog
  20. Thanks for that, it's been bugging me for ages. I'll have to get the log book changed, it is a nice colour I must admit. But why the colour of champions?
  21. Hi All, and Happy New Year to you. I'm just wondering what the actual coulour of my Defender is as per Land Rover? The reason I ask this is because to me it looks Grey, but on the log book it's classed as Green. Thanks Terra Dog.
  22. Cheers for that. Much Appreciated.
  23. OK thanks for that. Is there any way of testing the solenoids to find out which one is caput? I have a multi meter.
  24. Hi all, I was just wondering how many solenoids my Husky Superwinch 8 uses. The wires from the winch go into a box under the passenger wing which I presume is where the solenoid/solenoids are housed? The reason I ask this is because the other day when using my winch it stopped winding in and would only wind out. Because this happened I was told the solenoid has gone. Will it have just one solenoid to do both winding in and winding out? The controler lead goes into the box under the wing aswell. Are they easy to replace? Also i've noticed that my winch is noisier that other winches i've heard, it is quite an old winch but I checked the gearbox and it's mint inside with plenty of greasy oil. Would it be the actual electric motor thats creating the noise? Cheers Terra Dog
