discovery 1994 auto 300tdi. my indicators and stop lights don't work. when I tap the module in the passenger side footwell, I hear a whirring noise and the indicators all come on. turn off ignition and back on and they're off again. haven't been wading. anyone any ideas? thanks.

secondhand diff fitted, 3 pinholes chemical metalled, heavy coat of red oxide paint on diff housing. running ok right now, touch wood. thanks for the info provided. now for the annoying wobble when taking away at low speed,replacing the exhaust system, blanking off egr..........................................................................................

got a second hand diff. assy. removed old diff. the oil was red. the diff housing is very corroded. I think it may be porous. is there an additive or a cure for porosity?

I'm not a car mechanic. that's why. I'm just trying to do the best I can with the little knowledge I have.

driving home from glasgow along the motorway a couple of hours ago and something went bang under the car. limped home. when coming off the throttle, a horrendous noise appared, when driving forward normally, no noise, except when going uphill. got under the motor and I think it's the rear diff front bearing-jacked up one side of motor and spun one rear wheel-rumbling but no crunching noises. turned prop under motor and looks like a lot of play at front diff bearing. are rear axles expensive second hand? that's really put a damper on my weekend! 1994 300 tdi.

took out policy with RAC. Added missus. told guy don't get paid till 13th, please take money out till after this date. got letter from bank on 12th the day before the 13th stating RAC tried to take money out. bank refused, as no money in account. RAC sends letter, we're charging you extra 25 quid for returned payment request, and we'll cancel your insurance if it happens again. Hey-how about I cancel the insurance you incompetent jerks.. spoke with girl from RAC-got absolutely nowhere. rude, unhelpful. spoke with someone else today-team leader will call back sometime, but don't know when as it's a holiday. Very very poor customer service. very disappointing. I'm a member of the RAC, but think I'll cancel when the fees are due this year. very disappointed. Is there so little competition that they can treat people like carp? best insurance company for discos anyone?

thanks for the info. upon further reading, it appears to be a very common problem.

this questions for a friend of mine. his 200 tdi head gasket needs to be replaced. his has no holes on the tab sticking out from between head and block. he wants to know why some gaskets have diffewrent nos of holes and what they signify. does he have to buy a head gasket with no hole to replace his defective one? thanks.

taking off at low speed 1994 discovery auto 300tdi, the front wobbles. the driver side front had a tyre with burst steel belt when I bought it, which makes me think it's been in a bump. speeding up, the wobble disappears. you can see the front of the bonnet wobble when sitting in it. is this a common problem? any ideas guys? I swapped the front offside wheel. the tyres look ok.

is it really worth the work to blank this off?

seemd like the battery was nearly dead in my m reg discovery. got a new battery, fitted it and it still appeared to be nearly flat. it seems When I try pushing different parts of the button it'll work perfectly with a strong red led or not at all with a very dim light. anyone else experienced this, or is there a tip for fixing this? Thanks.

the rear door will mostly open ok, but sometimes will come off the latch but not open, as if the lock hasn't opened correctly. Also, the drivers door needs slight upward lift while opening door latch to open properly. any suggestions for a repair? thanks.

turns out it was due to a defective headlight bulb-main beam had gone out l/h side, but due to daylight driving with lights on didn't notice till someone pointed it out. new bulb=everything in the garden's rosy!

drove along snow covered minor road a couple of hours ago. unlit road, snow sparkling in the Discovery haedlights, exterior bitterly cold, interior nice and warm due to great heater, young boys in back seat enjoying snow. I love my Land Rover Discovery. 16 years old, rusty in parts, worn in parts, but with new filters, belts, pulleys, alternator, and pulling uphill like a train-life IS good. I'm fortunate enough to be satisfied with the simple things in life-home made wine/beer/jams/home grown food/wild food..........well, if you know, you know..........................happy CHRISTmas everyone on this forum, and a happy new year. i read that 300 tdi engine cyl heads were prone to cracking. where do they crack, why, and what are the symptoms. Also, is it always a replacement job?

When I put the auto gearbox into drive or reverse and take off there's a hell of a clunk! I mean a loud clunk and it feels like there's a good bit of slack in the take up. is this something to be worried about? thanks. 94 auto discovery 300 tdi

thanks for the info. just had the sane scenario, although I plumped for alternator first. turns out I was right. the rattling and squealing were loud, and the difference after fitting new alternator is fantastic! nice and quiet-only the chattering of the engine now!

turned on my headlight switch to driving lights and the headlights flicker on and off in time to the rapid clicking noise under the passenger side dashboard. any ideas guys ? 1994 discovery 300 tdi. changed the alternator last night-was squealing like a banshee and making rattling noises, but still working ok. what a difference! lovely quiet engine! thanks in advance guys.

went to see the previous owner last night. asked him if he'd refund the fee for the vic. told him i'd to take time off work etc. basically, got a bunch of lying bull**** and no refund. oh well.........................................................
