  1. The floor seems OK (Famous last words...) The brackets/fixings themselves are rusty and it looks like the mudflaps have been torn off taking half of the bracket with them

I'm wondering whether I can grind the nut off from underneath, and replace the original bolt and nut combination with a rivnut

Looking at the link above it looks like an M6 x 16mm bolt

I have some stainless steel M6 riv nuts; what are peoples thoughts about using them to hold the braket to the floor?

    Thanks

    Ade

  2. The 300tdi I bought has only got the small rusty remains of what used to be the mud flap brackets; the same on all 4 corners

I have purchased new brackets from LR, but wondering on how I fit them or the best way to fit them?

The fixings on the original bracket are rusty, so will need cutting off, but didn't want to attach them withou asking first

How are they fixed? Is it a bolt and nut? Or are they fixed nuts into the car?

    Thanks

    Ade

  3. The 300tdi that I've bought seems to have a power steering leak. I'm trying to repair the bits and bobs in order to get an MOT. Would this leak cause it to fail an MOT?

I've tried putting stop leak fluid in there, but its done nothing

You can clearly see drops of PAS fluid running down the arm that connects to the drag link

From reading the forum regarding the steering box, the general feeling seems to be replace the steering box, and not to replace the seal

From searching the net, if I'm reading the advert correctly, is that £91 on an exchange basis?

Anyone used them before? OR recommend anywhere else?

    Thanks

  4. I'm looking for a braided brake hose kit for a 1996 Non ABS Discovery 1; its got corroded hard pipes at the caplier as well punctured rubber sections

When looking around there seems to quite a few on eBay all at varied prices

What I'm wondering is what section of hose do the kits actually replace? Can you get kits that replace both the rubber section and the small section of hard pipe at the caliper at the same time in one length?

Kits thats I've fitted on other cars in the past have always installed from the hard pipe temination all the way to the caliper using a banjo bolt, but the photos of the kits for the discovery have got my wondering?

Has anyone fitted either the Britpart or Goodridge kits? Or point me in the direction of a kit that would suit my needs

    Thanks

  5. I have a brand new pump top cover complete with gasket, uprated bush, and brand new spindle

I bought it in January this year for my 1996 300tdi with EGR, but the car was written off before I had chance to fit. Pictures below:

  6. Been reading the forum for a while, and must say theres lots of knoledge on here that helped me, but this will be my first post

I need to replace the injection pump on my 300tdi. I'm OK with a spanner, but still learning my way around the Disco

I bid on a pump from ebay, which I won, and arrived the other day. From reading by Haynes manual it says that when the pump is being removed it should be locked in the timing position, but the one I have received seems to be a bit (see photos; bad due to iphone)

Is it Ok to be like that? Can I still fit it OK?

It seems pretty stiff, not moveable by hand to put it in the timing position

    Thanks in advance
