  1. It was the side windows, I might have put brackets on wrong way round, as I found that the easiest way of fitting brackets as they wouldn't fit the way round that they were meant to go, for whatever reason. The vehicle is a factory fitted station wagon, so is not a case that it's been modified with wrong parts.

I did find that I had to drill new holes for mounts at bottom as there was only one excisting place to bolt the bracket and that didn't line up either.

I still have to do the right hand window yet so maybe that will work out better,

  2. I've just fitted a set of mobile storage systems internal window guards to my 1994 CSW defender.

Did anyone else have trouble fitting them as I have had to cut the facia paneling which goes around the window, I had to cut the paneling where the window guards are bolted to allow paneling to get flush with body work.

  3. I have movement in my right hand front hub, I originally thought it was bearing and have tightened this up, this got rid of 12-6 movement, but I still have movement 9-3 (side to side) there is no movement in track rod ends or steering drop arm,

Can any body through any light on this, am thinking about changing bearings to see if this helps, although if it's tight 12-6 shouldn't it be ok 3-9?

  4. Can't decide wether to upgrade my standard defender transfer box to one out of a discovery, I currently run on BFG 265/75

Looking at info on the web, it seems like you only get benefit if you are running on standard tyres, as some people reckon that the larger tyres are similar to the gearing ratios that I'd expect to achieve,

I currently do about 400+ miles per week, on road.

What are your thoughts on it,

  5. I have a 2000 yr freelander 1.8,

The battery is flat, i cannot access the vehicle from the boot door as the lock wont work with the key, and neither will the lock work via drivers door, Any ideas as to how i can access the freelander to open the bonnet.

  6. When i jack up the offside front on my defender 300tdi 110, i cannot turn the wheel manually, it is trying to turn front prop, but as the nrside wheel is on the ground it wont allow any movement, but i can if i engage neutral on the transfer box, or jack up both front wheels i can move them freely, one going forward, one going backwards. This i believe is quite normal,

This is now where i think it gets weird,

If i jack up the Nr side wheel, with the offside on the ground, i can manually turn the wheel, thus turning front prop, this is with the transfer box lever in high/low ratio or neutral.

The half shalfts are all ok.

Am i going crazy or is this how it is meant to be,

I thought each front wheel should only turn if the oppisite front one was in the air.

  7. Just changed my starter motor as it had the same fault, but first check that you have a good earth contact, (remove earth lead from chassis and clean up where it bolts to chassis), as this can cause the starter motor to click, also worth putting a second earth lead from chassis to engine, Mine was bolted: battery to chassis and and then onto gearbox, and earth contact was still poor, untill i out another earth from chassis to starter motor bolts,
