Its's been one of those weeks :(Sad he 97 300tdi, which until now has been my prisitine Disco whilst the 94 got quietly shabbier and shabbier, has decided it's time to test my patience: - The passenger side heater direction dial suddenly won't go beyond the 12 c'clock position. I guess the cable has seized but would be great if someone could confirm before I start stripping out radio etc to look closer. - Headlining has decided it doesn't get on with the roof anymore. What appeared to be a trial separation now looks like divorce. The material is sagging all over the place and is particularly shabby around the front sunroof. Looking through the forum there are various fixes that range from strip out and bin, glue or replace. Any advice would be welcome. - I've been using the air-con quite a bit for the last week (summer is on its way here) and have now got the optional footbaths filling up in the footwells. Do I need to get to the the overflow pipes from the interior or will just cleaning out the ends under the car do the trick? Cheers Nick
  2. You should try the local DRIRE office first. If they have your model on their records they will be able to do you an "attestation d'identité" for about 60€. LR France are very helpful currently charge about 120€ for a cert of conformity. I would guess you're looking at 10cv fiscale for your model. Given that it's over 10 years old you'll get the carte grise (log book) at half price. After that no more road tax and MOT on once every 2 years Good luck Nick
  3. Hi Steve, It was I guess the original gasket pretty much burnt away at the top corner. As a bit of preventative treatment I replaced the water pump with a new one whilist I was in there although the existing pump and gasket were doing OK. Bled system OK and now zero gurgling ! I'm keeping a eye on a small leak on the radiator itself but otherwise all OK French plates finally came through on Monday having gone through a few hoops (certificate of conformity, french MOT, customs exemption, etc.) I spoke to the DVLA last week regarding the V5 to make sure the transfer of ownership was going to be recorded OK. I've already sent off the export slip and with a covering note + photocopy of rest of V5 direct to them. The French admin can be fussy if they don't have full documents for an import so that's why I preferred to bring back the whole logbook. I'll post tax disc back to Paul today to see if he can cash in the remaining months for you. cheers Nick
  4. Hi, Just about to order an EGR blanking kit for my 97 300tdi EDC auto import. I've trawled through archives and am 99% sure this is OK but would like to hear from anyone else who has done the same to an EDC import. The EGR electrics have already been unplugged (previous owner) but it would seem to make sense to blank off at the manifold same as the non EDC version. Is it worth changing top hose to intercooler if blanked at manifold ? I keep an eye on the the various electric / starting problems that these EDC models can have and am loathe to provoke avoidable trouble ! Cheers Nick

  7. Hi, Due to replace the "P" gasket tomoorow. Got new pump, gaskets and brass bleed plugs lined up (forgot to order core plug). Found excellent step-by-step guide in the Tech Archive. Just wondered if anyone can give me an idea on torque values when reassembling. Got air-con - to add to the fun - anything to watch out for with this ? Thanks Nick

  9. Hi, Just stripped down the door on Disco 300tdi to investigate failed lock. The culprit is the plastic ring at the end of the lock barrel. It has cracked in two. Unlocks OK but can't lock because crack opens up when key turns clockwise. Over optimistically tried super glue but no good. Any ideas ? I never use the passenger lock because the alarm always starts growling so could swap barrel but given that the drivers side one is marked RH I guess they're not 'swapable' ? Nick
