  1. as it's a salsibury axle it's very easy to check as you can simply unbolt the diff cover look straight it. If it was really hot to the touch, i'd guess oil starvation, which means fried bearings. Were the horrible noises pulling away? Check if the diff pinion flops about.

  3. I'll wait till a proper adult comes along, but...

Yes you can get electric pumps, in fact someone had one for sale on this very forum. Think they originally came from drag racing. I don't know if your popping down to any more mud monsters events, but Rupert Deane's new challenge truck has one and has done away with engine driven one completely. But as to if they are any better. Not sure :D

Other idea's, exhaust wrap on the manifolds, made a big difference to my mates stag conversion.

2nd radiator in the rear tube.

Run some of this stuff http://www.redlineoil.com/Products.aspx?pcid=10

    turn the heater on :o

  4. I would say the major difference between challenger and some other comps, is that it is aimed more to new comers, and is a good intro into the challenge scene. (Also much like the Mud Monsters comps)... This is not to say that they dont get some pros in,,, and also not to say that some bits are really testing. I would like to say tho that at all the comps i have been to, inc, Mud monsters, challenger, Howling Wolf and mike wolfe, the harder some one is trying the less time they have to help... but all in all every one is there for a good time and will help if they can.. or have to...

  5. Mark Here from Mud Monsters

Top Day, Big thank you to Challenger and all that helped, Well set out and run with some sections that paul set out. not even a harrier Jump Jet would have got through.... Lots of fun tho and cant wait for the next one... Also cant wait to see the picture of my winch man Andy falling in the Pond

    Leaving now to set out,not raining........yet!!

Looking forward to seeing you all there..

    Paul

  6. I've had one in my old range rover and that is now in my 90, coming on 5 years of use. It was second hand when I got it and is still going strong. In a 110 I would have thought this is a great combo if you do any sort of offroading or towing in tricky situations.

One thing I have noticed is detroits get a bit funny if the oil isn't in good condition.

I do want to change to a selectable locker, but purely as I want fiddle brakes. Otherwise it is fit and forget, the traction advantage from a rear locker is worth every penny in my opinion.

  7. You know i went straight online and bought myself both these tools the evening after loosing so much skin!!! :D

I have some wheel work to do this coming week so the hub spanner will be in use

    cheers

    Kev

Cool, worth every penny. The hub spanner is also good for taping in certain seals too. I'd recommend drilling out the two holes you put the bar through to a good size. They are stupidly small for some reason?

    have fun!!

  8. I've been using these for about 2 years now http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-Flexible-Strip-White-96cm-PVC-96-LED-NEON-LIGHT-12V-/350438810428?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5197c7e33c#ht_1766wt_1140

very cheap, very effective, some come with self adhesive tape. I have a strip along the top of the windscreen and one along the top of the centre softtop rail (tasteless blue). Tons of light. Also a 24cm strip fits perfectly into the small recess in the passenger side dash.

Just be warned the connection wires are very thin.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALL NEW CLASS INFO AND REGULATIONS

    Basic vehicle

    · Must be safe to drive, working brakes, handbrake, engine can be killed quickly by switch or key, no leaky fuel tanks or lines, etc, etc.

    · Batteries must be well secured

    · You must have a working horn

    · A fire extinguisher must be carried, minimum 1.75L, AFFF type and secured well

    · Good recovery mounts on the front and rear of the vehicle

    · An additional throttle spring must be fitted

    · Working harnesses or seatbelts must be fitted

    · Battery must be fitted with an isolator switch

    · Vehicles do not need to be road legal, but anything unsafe will not pass scrutineering:tongue

    Roll cages/roll over protection

Roll cages are not mandatory, but we would prefer if they were fitted especially in the more modified classes.

We have no specific rules on cage design. The MSA and ALRC have excellent guidance or cage design construction and we recommend following their documentation.

It’s expected that you will navigate obstacles and terrain that your vehicle is safe to deal with, so adopt a common sense approach.

The only exception is soft-top vehicles must have some form of roll over protection, in the case of a suzuki SJ the existing body hoop is acceptable, a canvas stick frame on a land rover isn’t. If you need clarification please contact us.

    Winch/recovery equipment specific

    · Gloves must be worn when handling and operating winches.

    · Winch blankets must be used.

    · Winch(s) must be fitted with an isolator switch (wired from the battery isolator is acceptable).

    · Strops must be used when using tree’s as anchor points.

    · Shackles should be rated and of appropriate strength for your vehicle.

    · All recovery equipment must be well secured to prevent injury.

    · Plasma ropes must be in good condition.

    Event specific

    · Car number stickers/sponsorship stickers must be displayed on your vehicle for the duration of the challenge series, if removed you will be charged £10 for replacements.

    · Marshalls are on site for spectator safety and your safety. If you have any issue with a marshal, please report it to the head marshal. Any abuse of a marshal verbal or physical will not be tolerated.

    · Helmets are recommended but optional.

    · All drivers must be a Mud Monsters club member, co-drivers do not.

    Vehicle Classes

Mud Monsters breaks trucks down into 3 classes on a points system.

    Each winch is 1 point

Tyres 35inch or more 1 point (Will be measured from side to side on the day)

Each non factory fit axle differential traction aid (locker, lsd etc) is a 1 point.

    Fiddle brakes are 1 point

    Class 2 (modified)

2 or less points, this is where most people will fall, front winch and maybe some big tyres or a locker.

    Class 3 (Challenge)

3 points or more, where the big boys play, multiple winches, full lockers

    Class 4 (Supermod)[/u]

This is a new class, if your vehicle has any of these items you belong in this class:

    · tyres bigger than 37inch (Will be measured from side to side on the day)

    · rear steer

    · portal axles

    · hydraulic/pneumatically adjustable suspension

    · Full hydraulic steering

At Mud Monsters we run a point system which seems to work well and gives you a good chance to win the prizes which ever class you are in. This works in the way that the higher the class your vehicle falls in the less points you get per punch. this means the super mods need more punches than the modified class to win. We do still break each class down tho for trophies for first, second and third.

Yours Mark and Rupert @ Mud Monsters

  10. The probelm is finding one on it's own - I have this set up that includes a H14 hydraulic motor:

    Hydraulicwinchkit3.jpg

But breaking it up probably ruins my chance of selling it all.

Well what you have there is a great starting point for someone to fit any regular hydro (milemarker, red, etc) to a truck and be 100% reliable. The HPI motor would be surplus to requirements.

On the off chance you do decide to split, I have a friend who would take your hand off for the valve block and remote lever!!
