  1. Ok so today's the first day for a while it's been frosty here and you guessed it, she didn't start. Just cranked as if the battery was flat. Was gona drop test the glow plugs then stood looking at it thinking why would the old loom have a feed for the glow plug but no relay. Jumped back in and turned the key then realised the glow plugs activate through the key on a 1986. Hey presto started no probs. Sometimes I do wonder about myself ??

  2. Earths are definetly ok. They were all cleaned and checked a wee while ago when i had an indicator issue. Its just very cold/frosty mornings it seems to be refusing to start. Im still thinking either battery or glow plugs. Hopefully i get a weekend off work this week and i can get some time on it.

  3. Evening all, just wondering if anyone might know of a reason why my 300tdi might stink of diesel fumes all the time. i get alot of white smoke when shes started from cold but once its warm this dies down but when its running its always got a very strong smell o diesel reek

  4. Not sure of the starter but i know it defo wasnt britpart or bearmach. batterys an 096 yausa but im started to think its too low in cca as last week i parked it in the yard at work at 10am Sunday and went away til 7:30pm friday and it started first turn of the key. The weather was mild last week up my way. Had her out yesterday and when i went to it at 8am today it was a hard frost and -4°c outside and it just refused to start.

  5. Help!! My 90's taken a strange starting issue, most days it will start no probs then other days it struggles to caw over. Sometimes it feels like the battery's flat then after a second attempt it will fire up. Sometimes it can sit all week and start no probs. Other days you go to start it and the battery quickly dies.

    • The battery was fitted new 4 months ago and has a high cca
    • its a 1986 fitted with a 300tdi
    • New starter fitted 3 month ago
    • all earths are ok
    • its worse when it's really cold

    last week we had a very frosty morning and it just plain refused to turn over. Quick jump and away it went. The original engine was a 2.5na and as far as I'm aware there's no starter relay or glow plug relay.

    All suggestions welcome

  6. Ok so I finally got a weeks holiday so got time for Landrover jobs. Had a look and iv no dim dip module. Mines 1986 so I'm thinking maybe too early. But I do remember when I got it there was a black cable run from o/s blue/white to passenger side blue/red and the other end o the blue/red chopped into the blue/white. I put it all back to normal and it worked fine until I had to change one of the headlight bulbs.

  7. Ok so I have;

    Blue - Brake Lights

    Blue/Black - Strobes

    Yellow - N/S indicator

    Yellow/Black - O/S indicator

    Red/Black - Rotators

    Red/Brown - Rotators

    6mm black wire - Earth

    6mm white wire - +12v

    Now iv never been great with wiring but get by with a little help so here's my plan;

    Brakes direct to positive on brake circuit

    Yellow and Yellow/Black to there respective positives on direction circuits

    Black will be earthed either to body or battery negative

    Strobes and rotators will be joined to work together and fed through a relay, fuse and suitable switch

    White positive cable to positive on battery via 15amp fuse

    If anyone sees anything wrong wi this idea please set me straight. Beacons bolted to the roof and cabling run through a compression gland ready to install.
