  1. If it didn't make a noise before fitting the new plugs I would say it's something to do with them are you sure you have fitted the correct plugs , are they all tight & have not cross threaded one (easy to do ) causing compression blow by which will sound like a loud ticking noise do the plugs have sealing washers or are they taper seats I can't remember long time since I worked on a Rover V8 if washer are they all fitted if tapered seat are they all clean (no grit)

  2. Well new stat fitted not had chance to run it properly but it seems better just on tickover it warmed up quicker, I have removed the viscous fan as it has a lot of play in the viscous coupling so now I need to source one of those for the summer as I tow a caravan & don't want to risk it over heating

  3. It's a 300 TDi & I know it's not advisable to leave any engine on tick over for long periods but this is like when you stop in traffic for long periods (M25 type traffic) the temp drops maybe I shouldn't be complaining but in the winter it's a pain in the bum

Maybe I need a radiator muff for the winter months

  4. Hi Nigel I can understand where your coming from with the stat

But if the stat was faulty it would never warm up but it does & it stays warm unless it's allowed to tickover for a while even in the high temperatures we had during the summer months it was the same

Looks like I may have to remove the fan

  5. Hi I have a Disco 1 with the 300TDi engine & now that winter is on it's way I've noticed unlike the cars I have owned in the past the heater does not warm up if let to tickover in the morning at 5.30am it warms up fine when you drive & the temp gauge never goes above half way even in hot weather once the vehicle is warmed it's fine unless you let it tickover for a while then the temp gauge drops & the heater cools down any ideas.

I should maybe mention it still has the viscous fan fitted

  6. Don't know where else to ask this

Boring as it may sound I have made a set of side steps for my Disco1 & I used silver checker plate that I already had in the shed

Is there a way of turning silver checker plate black other than painting it

  7. Hi BogMonster yes as far as I know the paint is original paint code is 424 it needed a lot of TLC to get it to look like it does.

I put the VIN into the checker that "western" suggested above & it came up with the MY of 1996, the V5C has it as first registered 01/08/95

Thanks to everyone else for their input

So I have a Base Model how boring LOL, I really must get a LR badge for the front grille looks a bit naff without one could do with one for the rear door handle/number plate as that one has been damaged

I believe the Alloys I have on it now are Free Style/Tornado rims

    Jim
