As Adrian says "We'll be there"
Lot of foreign teams this year which is always good.
Alan, Road milages are quite heavy. Expect 20/30 min (At worst 40) drive between sites with most of the raods being A roads so speeds of up to 70mph.
You can trailer between sites if required (don't bother )
Hope i get Tixover last, i absoulutely HATE that God awful, sh8t hole of a place............Truely awful site
As for the rest of it, can not wait
Will be in the Castle inn Rockingham Thursday night for drinks B)

Do not bother trying to find a pump with a rear drive, you probably won't find one and if you do the specs will be wrong
Leave your orginal PAS pump but part fill with oil and plug the holes and use it as an idler pulley then run your bigger pump either where the ACE pump or air compressor would fit.
Keeps it simple that way.

As said this was quite common around 2001/2 and was put down to poor quality drums.
A good friend of mine continued to have problems when using Plasma style ropes and in the end had drums made from billet chrome molly
Did not break one after that
But looking at the number of MM's using rope rather than steel with no problems, i think you might just have been unlucky

I had just left school and used to drive 90's and 110's on the farm...............
I was lucky enough lin later years to be given a great many publications from around this time all the way through the 90's and i always find it amusing that so many ideas that we call new, have been done before.............and had articles written about it
The articles i found more amusing, in particular the ones about the heavy trials and was it the 'Milk float' that springs to mind???? Can't rememeber exactly, but by God it was funny.
Thats when the magazines where written by enthusiats for enthusiats and it showed.
I must be getting old, all this "Back in my day" stuff

That vehicle started life as a complete 2000 Defender TD5 csw with enough bolt on's to fill a shop window........

Undo the two bolts on the back of the motor, then the only thing holding the motor on is the seal were the motor body meets the casting and bearing that the armature seats through.
Tap the end of the armature with a soft blow hammer and that will see the bearing on it's way and probably shock the casing in to moving as well.
PG winches or David Bowyer both stock the nylon drum bushes.

I said to Adrain "Do you here anything? sounds like the fron wings being ripped of?"
Answer "No Keep Winching"
Get punch, reverse out of punch, Adrain: "Ahhh, perhaps you did hear something!"
Looks like i'll be fitting new panesl to that wing frame then
But that was a particluarly short cord on that one
Nice to see it so close at the top, just goes to show, one slip, one bit of bad luck, one punch lost and you have got to work very hard to get back into it.

So the question is,, Best rope ?? From whom ?? and how much, ie cost and length of 11mm for a pair of 8274's
We use and recommend 125ft of 11mm Plasma. This usually retails at £233+vat spliced with hook and thimble.
If you want two or more give me a call i will very happily do you a deal.

Ps: Please anyone who is breaking ropes regularly, look at your bumpers and fairleads, then at your winching techique.
There is a reason for breaking ropes and usually it is something simple like a sharp edge in your bumper, angle of the dangle, or damage to the rope itself, always pays to check just to be certain.

What a great day
Some really good hard punches and very tough winching (Loved it)with the shortest bits of strimmer cord seen outside of B&Q B)
We really enjoyed it with car working really well until head gasket decided it did not want to play any more, then crawled home to uncle Bucks at 20mph.
I hope these events continue to get the support they deserve as they really are very good.
Do not go if you don't like hanging from a bit of string above some very large drops.
But DO go if you want to be tested and pushed by some great terrain and some very good crews.
Simply awesome

We use 11mm and give it real abuse, again like the Jason the only thing we broke was the record for the worst SS........
And boy oh boy don't those winches pull........

sorry for this but I'm new to the world of winching so why are we lengthening the drums? Is it to hold more rope?
Do you want the long answer or the short answer?

Please take great care what materail you use for extending the drum.
I get sent a t least one drum a month where someone has done a DIY conversion using Solid or gas tube or some other strange bit of gear and it has collasped or bent the drum in use.
If your stuck for what to use or just need advice you can always ask.
We also sell the billet material.

The earth header that Simon mentions is near the clutch pedal under the bonnet and could cause this problem.
It bolts to the bulkhead and is prone to internal corrosion.

You are losing main Battery feed.
Remove drivers seat and open fuse box housed in there. Check all the large screw terminals for corrosion and check the tension of the screws.
All ways wise to undo them and retighten them.
If the box is full of mud you might have a knackered fuse box.
The other thing to check is main connection on the starter motor as this is were the main power is redistributed from for main circiuts.

This is whole new can of worms and requires a seperate thread.
However i agree with Jericho, in any winch situation ideally you want the wheels turning at the same speed as the winch.
However,This is not the thread to thrash this out................
But, for those that suffer, underdrives and different ring and pinion options are available.
Intrestingly i use 3:54(standard)diffs and a standard transfer box with my winch and match the wheel speed beautifully

Unless an hydraulic winch is very fast at low engine rpm, my opinion is that a hydraulic winch will suffer exactly the same problem..... I am interested to find out if you have managed to solve this issue, hence my question.

Hope your well.
I'm think not mistake in thinking that its exactly the drive characteristics as a Type 'R' ? and you have seen those working ?
Just a little info for you. The lads in NZ use Toyota pto gearboxs on there winches as they are cheap and easy to get hold of. Then they fiit gears from a different pto (name escapes me) to raise the gearing so they can drive assit with ease.
Any more than that and you will have to go digging on forums down that way. But it might be worth a look.
