The turbocharger in my defender 110 300tdi has to be replaced due to a metal object getting in (still unsure how).
I have been offered a Discovery unit and wondered if it was compatible and easy to fit into my defender.
Many thanks

Have just taken the intake hose off the turbocharger and have found metal fragments at the end of the hose and damage to the the blades what I do not understand is upon rechecking the air filter I found similar pieces. Am very curious now, has anyone an idea as to how the pieces ended up so spread out? (The pieces appear to be all from the same object - flat, 5mm wide and semi circular) Many thanks

Can't find any damage or splits to the turbo hose. However found bits of rubber in the air filter which fell out when I was inspecting (presuming from the dump valve on the filter that was degraded. Could these have made their way into the turbo charger and caused damage?

I have a 110 defender 300. The week before last i carried out my end of winter service (engine oil, air filter and fuel filter). On my drive up the lane to check for leaks etc when I increased the revs I heard a noise similar to what the injectors make but a little louder (1st anxiety phase). Keeping an ear out I then had to take a trip to Derby, with the 'injector whooshing' noise becoming apparent when in low revs (slow moving traffic) I continued until I had to steadly slow and then changed from 5th to 3rd at which point I heard a bit of rotation clatter from under mid way (2nd anxiety phase). Yesterday with no further clattering but still with the 'injector whooshing' at low revs, I heard a sound similar to a 'siren at the waltzer' at high revs and a loss of power when moving from 3rd to 4th (3rd anxiety phase). Apologies for being a little long winded. Any thoughts on settling my nerves (gearbox I'm thinking). Many thanks.

Evening. Does anyone know what the maximum length that i can carry on top of my defender; l am carrying wooden poles.
I have recently recieved an email back from the people that are paid to know and they just referred me to the section with in the law, which is little unclear.
As I understand it if I go over 3m then I need an escort. What is not very clear is it 3m back and 3m front = 6 m without an escort or just 3m total?!!
Many thanks

Thanks for your advise. It is a 300tdi 110. Was in a fit of dispair when I put the thread on apologies for the the limited info. Will be having a look this morning as I've just got back home. Was hoping it might be the cylinders rather than the clutch as I don't have luxuries as a ramp or lifting gear (as yet). Many thanks

I towed a pal home the other day and during a drive out today noticed that I was having difficulty in engaging the gears after pressing the clutch pedal. Are there any thoughts please before I get the spanners out.
P.s.there was no noticeable signs or trouble prior to towing.

I am much the same as Mangan with the experience on my defender. Is there any literature or links could be recommended for transfer onto a galvanised chassis?

Dashboard (sorting the radio also) is already out.
Thought initially it would be the park switch but does as you're all saying the gears are only turning one way; there was for a while a clicking sound from the wheel box area, would this confirm replacement gears and rod?
P.s. while I'm at it, what is the cost in time and cash of putting a third wiper blade? Is it right that I have replace the motor?

Setting off home yesterday the heavens opened so turned on the wipers. Problem was that they moved across the screen but wouldn't return! Any thoughts please, I can't cope for too long with the manual bailing twine return optional extra. Many thanks

Ta for the advice fella

Wasn't aware thanks for that fella. M'family live in Norway and they have done that in the past that's why I was considering it and It was a cheaper option than a roof rack for over here.

That was another reason (replacing the first wiindow pane behind the rear seats with a panel) as I was going to hang the jerry and water cans on the outside which would cover up the first pane and therefore make them redundant.

Trying to make the best use of space. Moving the dog guard back about a foot or so. Have my storage down the sides between guard and the rear door, cargo net above. Need to give the dogs as much air as I can on the long hauls. Basically want to open windows without clambering in and maximise fresh air.

I was thinking of swapping the rear windows around (putting the near side window onto the off side and vice versa) and wondered if it was a straight swap. Appears to be but thought I'd better check. Many thanks.

It did look like the remains of a washer, but what I was unsure about is I found the remains scattered in the air filter and the intake hose? Thanks for responding; I'll double check the filter next time.
