  1. This was by far the most challenging lane of the whole weekend and why it gets its own film. If you never do another lane then you should get to Machynlleth. An awesome stretch covering every kind of terrain you can imagine with a half dozen really tricky sections that will really test you. The stone step and the sleeper axle twist being the one’s most likely to catch you out. I had been panicking about getting back up the stone step having failed so badly last time I did this lane but as it happens all I needed was more power so the TDCi’s bit of on-board electrickery could sort me out. I hope you all enjoy this one as much as I did driving it.
  2. Ah brilliant info mate. Thanks for that. Great to have some background info
  3. I think our route planner was a little unsure but it had clearly been driven and wasn't signposted with any restrictions. No we didn't see a soul all day long!
  4. This is a film from a recent laning weekend we did. Often when you’re trying to navigate from one area to another you spend too much time on tarmac and in this case one of our guys reckoned he had discovered something pretty special between Nant-y-Moch and Machynlleth. It’s not all thrills and spills but for the sheer variety in terrain this could well be my new favorite route in the area.
  5. This film is from the 2nd day of a laning weekend and shows us navigating from Strata Florida to Nant-y-Moch, which you could describe as Devil’s Bridge. Then driving about the Nant-y-Mooch area which is littered with quality tracks through desolate moorland. Towards the end of the film you’ll see a lane that we have yet to finish because it has such a severe lean on it. My nerve had gone by the end of it that’s for sure.
  6. Not so much sticking. It just left a dusty residue and always took about 4 washes. I want to finish a days laning and just jet wash it not spent hours faffing! A gloss finish would have been much better!
  7. No not really. The wrap was done free by a local Company because my car was going to a festival and they wanted the PR. Truth be told I think I preferred it silver anyway so I have been looking for an excuse to remove it. It also lets me complete the process for anyone looking to do the same. I can detail all the pro's and cons now. I think the main one being my choice of finish. I went for matt black. Looked great when it was done but when you cover it in mud its a bugger to jet wash off.
  8. All but the roof removed. I'm part way through a vid of the removal process so people can see what having a wrap entails from both end's of the spectrum. Not dead simple to peal off but it's done a brilliant job of protecting the paint. It was like kevlar armour! As a little teaser, lets just say that the wrap will withstand everything the most challenging of Green Lanes can throw at you. It will however struggle at a safari park!!
  9. This video is part 1 of a fantastic weekend we have just completed around the Dovey Estuary in Wales. On day 1 we drove down to Strata Florida and camped overnight on the lane. I never get bored of Strata. It’s just one of those Green lane mecca’s with a bit of everything on offer. A great start to a big weekend and series of films.
  10. Turned back at Garlands. The lady leading had briefed us on what we needed but a few people weren't prepared. We had our fun already by then!
  11. We thought we would put a twist on a normal Laning day in the Peaks and as one of our group is qualified to lead caving expeditions, we did a half day on the lanes in the Peaks and then went to Giants Hole just outside of Castleton. There is a link in this film if you want to see what a gang of amateur idiots wandering around the caves looks like. I wish I had a camera inside my Landy for this film. The climb out of Hollinsclough is fun but pretty straightforward and I had my Mrs in the car for her first laning trip. During the short 8 minute ascent we had tears, hyperventilating, threats to get out and walk (oh the shame) and on my 2nd attempt to get over the rocks at the top she actually punched me!! Bloody woman! http://youtu.be/gQnmfldtVmQ
  12. I did my first day in Shropshire last weekend. I had always avoided it, despite it only being a few hours from home, because people said it was flat and a bit dull. We got lucky with the weather and I have to say it was a really good day out. Everything I love about green laning. Not all severe climbs and challenges at every turn, although there were a few, but fantastic scenery, great and varied lanes and hardly any tarmac in-between. What really made it for me was just how nice all the locals were. 3 or 4 people stopped us for a chat and the horse riders we ran into were everything those in the Peaks are not and kind of confirmed my opinion of the ‘Peaks attitude’ http://youtu.be/EJR7M8si09w
  13. This is the last in a series of 3 films from a recent weekend in the Bala area of North Wales. After a forest drive we camped in the area and tried to use as many Green Lanes as we could to work our way home. All the usual suspects in the area but it was made interesting by the car combination. A big 3 litre Jeep who claimed to be unstoppable, my own Defender 110 TDCi and then led by an old 200TDi Defender 90. It was interesting to see the differences in the way the cars coped with the terrain. http://youtu.be/iuY7UFlroZQ
  14. I think you just check his website for a date and call to book. I email him direct now. Maybe try that and say I recommended it to you. You never know you might get a deal out of him! david@landcraft4x4.co.uk If you decide to go on one of his organised one's I'd go for the adventure plus. The standard one is a little tame. If you do book on let me know and I might try to get to the same date. I love the place!
  15. Its an awesome place that I'd highly recommend for a bit of a change!
  16. This is the 2nd part of the drive we did recently in Bala forest. I think the place is amazing for the differing terrain and some of the fantastic scenery. Driving through the deep forest tracks is, for me at least, as good as it gets. Had a bit of fun with the film as I managed to capture our pro photographer taking a tumble and bless him he chose to hurt himself rather than his camera. On our last visit one of our guys managed to turn his Disco over in the weirdest way I’ve ever seen and it was funny to see how Welsh health and safety had dealt with that!
  17. It was strangely deceptive stuff to drive on and a bit of a new experience for me!
  18. lol. I was being charitable to be honest. I thought it was abundantly clear in both the film and the YouTube description. The description is there for 5 seconds, a long time for such a short paragraph. But ok, I'll try to remember that as I do have a few other films from the private forest area that I was going to post up, The scenery is awesome in the forests!
  19. Fine mate. I'm right behind you and you won't see anything like that in my laning films! Its why this place is good to go. You can learn a bit in a safe environment so if you make mistakes its in a place where a bit of mud and spray isn't the end of the world!
  20. No that's fine mate, I'd be the first to pick on stuff that showed people tearing the place up. You probably just missed the wording in the film as it is a bit quick! I thought the video made it clear where we were and what we were doing. Its akin to a pay and play site. A private forest with green lane type tracks set amongst it. All this was waste scrub land not accessible to the public.
  21. I’m sure you’ve watched a load of my films showing us laning and off roading all very competently. Well in my case at least it isn’t always quite like that!!!
  22. Just a short video clip of a little run in I had with a North Wales local at the weekend. I had spent Saturday on an Adventure Drive in Bala on private land and then used some green lanes to get part way home, finishing at Glyn Ceiriog. I stopped to straighten my mirrors and sluice off my number plates and he wandered over shouting at me for ‘abusing Wales’. I very politely explained why my car was so muddy, from the previous day in Bala in a private forest but also explained I had just legally driven highways I was taxed and insured to be on. He looked vaguely confused and then wandered off behind my motor to have a go at a pair of walkers and this is a short sneakily taken phone clip of the fun. http://youtu.be/JprV54yBBgo
  23. Having just got back from a Mid Wales trip I was chuffed to bits to find a Land Rover Monthly on my doorstep and to get a really nice mention in it. Because of that I decided to do something a little bit different with the film for this trip. As well as my usual film covering the best of the day’s action, I’ve also included links to ‘drivers eye view’ films of some of the best lanes. So if a lane interests you, you can get a real feel for what it’s like to drive it! Page 174 of the magazine if you’re interested in seeing the article. http://youtu.be/3XBw9yl4sdk
  24. lol, OK, fair enough and donation made. I don't know how much your involved with this forums admin but every view of one of my films from your forum presents a google advert at the top of the thread from which the forum generates revenue. That's all good and I do the same on my own 4x4 blog albeit far more modestly. A forum has to fund itself somehow and although its just pennies, its still worth doing. Have you seen how many thousands of times my threads have been viewed on this forum? Feeling a bit targeted if I'm honest. You haven't got a horse have you? If people are enjoying the odd film of mine and the forum is getting lots of views of them, everyone's a winner? You still making your films??
