  1. Ta for the reply's chaps, yes the red white is connected. But have just realized mine used to be a 19j and has a starter relay. So have more wires to check and could be a dodgy relay.
  2. Hi All I have just replaced the bulkhead on my 12j powered 90. This of course resulted in removing pretty much all the wiring. All is now back together after a few months (slow I know... ) Everything seems to be working except when I fully turn the key....no starter action...just a click from the brake warning relay. Battery is fully charged and the hefty cables from the ignition switch all seem to be in place. My first move I guess is to jump from battery to starter to see if that hasn't seized ...haven't done that yet. Anything else I should look out for? Only found this at close of play yesterday and cannot check it out till next weekend.... just having an early shout out :-)
  3. Many thanks All, seal replaced today with pump insitu and no leaks Big job tho' (for me!) and setting up the timing is way more difficult when the engine is installed, ended up taking pictures end on to make sure it was all lining up!
  4. Thanks Les, have found a supplier for the seal. now too. Wish I had done it when I replaced the belt when the engine was sitting on the garage floor! Oh well.
  5. Found the size 14-3-12 but now where to get one?? Actually that must be wrong.......would be 1mm around!!!
  6. Ah perfect.....if a bit irritating as I have just replaced the belt and could have done it then......the joys of an unknown engine! Anyone know where I can get the seal and what size pls?
  7. Thanks for the helpful advice all, left the Landy for the week with diesel cleaner syringed through the bleed port. Charged battery, connected to Wife's Jeep with jump leads and a very slow turn over, swapped to Daughters jump leads and fired on the 3 try, running on the 4th. Yay.............. Probably would have fired last week with the different jump leads.......oh well.......should have noticed really. After a little while settled down nicely....quiet (for a 12j) and the smoke cleared quickly. But all is not great sadly...... Have a steady drip of diesel from the timing case........I suppose this means the front seal on the diesel pump??? I guess to sort this is a pump rebuild?????? The lift pump is new and doesn't seem to be dumping diesel into the sump so don't think that's the cause...which is a pity as that would be a simple fix.
  8. Thanks for all the info, didn't have much time on sunday but squirted some diesel and cleaner into the pump bleed port, turned it over and had bubbles at the port and fluid coming from the pipes at the injectors, but the pump appears to be empty at the bleed port again now....does this move me on at all?
  9. Hi All, many thanks for the swift reply's Basically yes, leaks from solenoid if loosened, have done a bit of manual pumping but mostly on the starter, filter primed really quickly so I guess the lift pump is Ok (ir's new but!!!!) Had it jumped across to another car so it has had a lot of cranking! No diesel seems to be getting beyond the pump so yes, I think the pump is gummed up as it may well have been left for a while empty. I have syringed diesel in through the bleed port yesterday in the vain hope that it may loosen up but not optimistic! Any way to ungum other than sent to a specialist! Towing not really an option sadly as we are in a busy estate and the nimby's would moan.....
  10. Wondering if anyone can help. Have rebuilt a 2.5 nad on a very good recon bottom end.But cannot get it to run! Basically can bleed to the filter no probs (in fact a lot of pressure there) but cannot get anything from the bleed on the top of the injector pump.Seems to be getting to the pump and the solenoid (which I have tested and works) as I get diesel bleeding if I loosen either. One suggestion I found was to blank the return (tbh there was a lot more diesel in there than expected) but that doesn't seem to have helped. The pump is apparently OK and was with the bottom end which still had the hone marks on the bores and piston rings that gapped pretty much as new, therefore assuming the pump is similarly good...but realistically is an unknown.Any ideas anyone?
  11. Thanks Western, that has clarified things a bit, it was paddocks website that made me think there were 3 but I see 2 are the same. Will check the manifold as it looks like one uses a washer/gasket and the other doesn't Hopefully I won't need much of it so either will be OK dependent upon manifold.
  12. Hello all Still moving along with my 12j build to replace a blown 19j. Started to look for an exhaust downpipe and see there are 3 types depending on age. But I bought the engine on it's own and it has been mod recon'd at some stage in it's life. Engine number is 12j01279c can I find the age from this? Or can I tell from the manifold which downpipe I need?
  13. Hi All I am rebuilding a 12j and have a NOS late sump with the oil breather return (like the late TD. The sump plug appears to be m12, but not sure what thread 1.25 or 1.50 It is much smaller that the original 12j bolt. Does this tie in with any other model......200 or 300tdi maybe?
  14. Hi All Just started stripping a (supposedly good running) 12j to do a bit of a freshen up and found this. Guessing a crack in the head around the valve area?? The valve is stuck in that position. The engine has run like it as there are deposits on the piston. I assume the head is totalled? Have a 19j too, pretty sure the heads interchange?? Comp ratio's are the same. I know...forget about them and get a Tdi.....but there you go......I'm a glutton for punishment :-)
  15. All sorted but took the whole day In the end, not only was the original wire faulty, but so was the new one! Also 2 dodgy earths and some slightly strange wire colours, I just wasn't getting consistant results, very very frustrating. Indicators were just a grubby fuse holder. Phew.......................
  16. Ahh that's good news then, means the wireing has not been messed with too much then!. Want to keep it all as is if poss, just want to get the bits working again! Will have another look this weekend, i like the idea of checking out the headlight separately.
  17. Main beam stopped working on the lefthand headlight of my 110, easy, bulb swop, sadly bulb swopped and still no life. Checked fuses, seemed fine. Anyway yesterday had a bit of time and fine weather so had a good check through the electrics, was a 24v now a 12v with a 200tdi but the dash wiring does not seem to have been messed with too much. Anyway popping fuses made no difference to the light coming on/or not, so took the fuse box off and found that the fuse blocks had been transposed so I was dutifully messing with the wrong fuses! Got them back where they should be and could then see that the fuse for LH Dip blew as soon as the dip switch was pushed for main. Time was getting a bit short now so ran a new wire through from the fuse box to the lamp (assuming a short on the original). But no....... fuse still blew, took the bulb out and still the fuse blew... surely it cannot be the bulb holder...anyone else seen that! Wasn't too woried short term as it seldom gets driven in the dark now but once all back together tested everything and then had no indicators (but I do have hazards so flasher unit is OK) One common factor is the column switch, but surely this would affect both dip's ??? I am fairly OK with electrics having made a loom and rewired a 11a years ago, but I also like to leave well alone if all is OK. Anyone had anything similar???
  18. Hi All I have a rather worn and leaky 6 bolt steering box on my 110. I would like to swop it for a better 3 bolt that I have. Anyone know if all the threads/pipes etc will be compatable? They look to be roughly in the right place, but was wondering about metric/imperial threads?? Also the mounting bolts.
  19. Took the handbrake drum off today, was not oily, but may have been at some time as it was "sticky" Cleaned it all off with brake cleaner and reassembled, spun fine in fowards dirrection, but gradually tightened in reverse. Currently have wound the adjustment right off and all is fine, but what can be causing it to tighten, shoes looked to have plenty of meat and all seemed to be assembled properly. Strange! Would love to put an X brake on, but I have plenty other things to spend out on at the mo'
  20. Put my 110 back on the road last week, good timing with all the snow! All going well, but when I reverse it feels like it is being held back, bit like extreme axle wind up. Handbrake releases fine, and rolls easily when let off. All is fine in all foward gears. Any ideas?? Spec is ExMOD 110 with 200tdi and Discovery transfer box.
  21. Many thanks 6 pot, have PM'd my email addy. Sorry for delay, have been working abroad this week.

    Many thanks in anticipation.

  23. Hi All I am putting a wolf hard top on a normal wd 110. I need the part numbers for the brackets that fit to the hard top ( in the aluminium extrusion bit )and thence to the capping's. Although the whole page would be really handy
