Hi All
Just thought I would share a little gem I found - Land Rover Parts and Spares Direct - does not have a catalogue and you have to know the part number (order a free cat from Rimmers!! and use that for alot of stuff) just discovered it and its been cheaper from 50%-10% on the stuff I have checked against Rimmers and Paddocks. Plus free delivery on alot.
Good find if I do say so myself.
Cheers
SharpePS A good find for me anyway - you might all of known about it!!

Does look good, but prefer my landy looking like, well, a landy!! Neat job though.

Thanks - new (well recon exchange) ordered and new arm as well - i believe they are a PITA to get off!! MOT next month instead.:-(

Yep, thats the one. Recommended fix? I know that sounds daft, as I am assuming you can get a new seal, or is it one of those - "You'll need a whole new box" moments? Experiences on replacing / buying what I need greatly appreciated.

At the bottom of the steering box it goes to an arm which has a swivel seal half way up.....Sorry not one for part names as i am still learning. Does that make sense?

Hi all
1989 19J 2.5TD County SW
I had the tracking done on the above just before it failed its MOT last July - sat on the drive since with me doing the various bits and bobs over the period (hobby car, and due to redundancy and getting a new job on 10K less! - enough of the sob story) Well, everything done bar one thing, the power steering box was leaking. I thought at the time thats not unusual and a swop out will sort for a recon. Anyhow, now I have come to do it I had a light bulb moment when I tested the steering to see how bad the leak was. The drive has been clear of all oil for months even though I take her round the block once a fortnight. Only when I put her on full lock does she pump fluid out of the swivel - rest of the time fine....nothing. I have noted that when I had the tracking done there is a tighter turning, has the guy I paid adjusted the front TRE to far out and compensated by turning the track rod TRE out to get the tracking right but exceeded the steering boxes max? Any thoughts or comments would be lovely - cos I'm still looking for that extra 10K a year so cant spend anything!!! (well not on the landy as its apparently "none essential") Sat breaking my heart as it is booked in for MOT tomorrow, on sly, as i'm off for Easter with daughter, trying desperately to get it through!!! Then there's just the tax to smuggle!!!! :-)
Thanks to anyone who can assist. Do I take the front TRE in, if so how much, do I take the track rod TRE's in to compensate (full circle per full circle to front TRE?) Am I looking in the complete wrong direction and just need a new box? Will tracking/toe in/out be affected?
(Still a newbie - but trying hard)
Best regards
Alan

Afternoon Guys
Recent MOT failure on my 1989 2.5TD 19J 90 CSW, owned for four years, did ALOT of work for first MOT (but nothing on brakes). Sorted everything else other than the excess brake pedal travel.
Just about to bleed the brakes as I believe this is the problem, some months ago my warning light came on and I "topped" up the brake fluid which had emptied the cylinder (thus assuming air has now got in!!). Question comes in two parts.
1. Had a quick look at bleed nipples which have different sized bleed nuts - assume previous owner has only replaced 1 side at a time. What size nut is on the "newer" replacements?
2. Bought a e-zee bleed one way kit, but doesn't fit over one of the nipples - is this just because this is the old one is that old that they are not used anymore?
Cheers

Also looking at one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ACORN-LTL-5210MM-Email-MMS-Trail-Scouting-Trail-Hunting-Camera-/331035157334?pt=UK_CamerasPhoto_DigitalCameras_DigitalCameras_JN&hash=item4d133ba356
as a back up to the tracker, both will send you an MMS/Txt instantly when movement is detected.....
I work for a local authority as an enforcement officer and we have three of these exact types for ASB and flytipping - I must admit, for the price they are very good but you need to consider the placement and number of times the PIR goes off - batteries get zonked if its going off all the time and if you have it set to send the MMS image, you need a good SIM card with plenty of data allowance. Night vision is excellent also.
Alternatively, you can get home systems these days with very easy self installation (which I have) with a camera protecting the front of the house for less than £200.
Bare in mind we have caught ALOT of people we wish to speak with about incidents, but unless you pick up another vehicles reg plate, or the perp is known locally they are in fact pointless as you will simply never ID them.
I spent (for car security) my money on 2x trackers off ebay which when you text them they relay a google maps position to you. I have to charge once a week (out of habbit I do mine on a Saturday night for one and Sunday night for other) One hidden in the tail light panel and one in the dash. Only cost £20 each. The police may not be bothered chasing after em, but I will!!!! - with my body armour and crow bar!!!
Replacing drop arm nut

Afternoon Chaps
I have recently replaced my steering box (4 Bolt) and bought a new drop arm and ball joint as thought might as well whilst i'm there. I have put everything back into place and today received a new drop arm nut and lock washer (AEU4025/6). I have come to put it back on and the nut is a 36mm? (which annoyed me as I went out and bought a 34mm socket which it should have been?!) Also, its so hard to adjust up, Ive now ordered a 36mm socket and awaiting delivery (local stores didnt have any!), so I thought I would "nip it up" with an HD adjustable spanner so I could crack on and refill the fluid etc.
When i was using the adjustable, the nut fits on the thread, but so much torque is needed to turn it its moving the whole steering and its only done about two revolutions? My concern is - if I let the steering go all the way to right, If im torquing this up so hard, will it damage my nice shiny new steering box putting that much pressure on it? Seriously, i've replaced a lot of things on the landy but this is the hardest nut i've ever turned?
I know my new box has been painted which will cause some stiffness, i've squirted wd40 all over them, still - honestly using a long torque bar, its very very stiff?
Advice appreciated.
