  1. I am sure the goverment could care less whether or not the consumer knows why the idiot light comes on when the car needs service. I can't say that I know the regulations, but it seems the main reason for standardizing the readout for all cars '96 and newer was so it would be easier for shops to do emissions testing for the annual state inspections. Tim
  2. Thanks all for the info and the links. I'll keep researching. I've had trouble with the search on this forum as most keywords I type in only bring up the "sorry" message. Thanks again, Tim
  3. Will the stock coil do? I am already running Magnacor wires and an RPI spark amplifer with the 3.9 chip. I just replaced the stock coil with a bosch replacement as mine died. Also, one major question is how far can I go with the compression for propane only? Thanks, Tim
  4. Hello all! I have really enjoyed reading many of the posts here and have learned a lot about my Disco. I am starting a fairly major rebuild of a 95 D1 and need some advice. Since I didn't get a lot of hits on my "Propane or duel fuel" post, and since I pretty much want to do propane only, How should I build an engine to run only Propane? I am building a 4.6 on my 3.9 block. I know this is not optimal but it will be a mild rebuild and will not be abused. I have concluded from research and "professional advice" this would be acceptable (with studs of course) for petrol, would this change for propane only? Compression ratios, components, ignition, injection options, etc., anything anybody knows about this would be greatly appreciated! Also, how would engine performance compare to petrol only if the engine were set up to perform its best with propane? Even though the overwhelming reason for this is cleaner emissions, I would like to think I could get similar performance from propane if the rebuild is specifically for propane. The rebuild will be simple enough but some leads on propane specific components would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tim
  5. Couldn't the CR be higher for propane only, like maybe close to 12:1? Also, shouldn't the ignition put out more spark for propane only?
  6. I think I can do propane only for daily driving, I have a couple of options for fueling near or at home. Extended trips might take some advanced research and planning. First I am more interested in whether or not the engine can be set up better and easier to do only propane. I've read a little about the RPI multi-port injection. Would that be installed in my current intake manifold in lieu of my current EFI? It just seems simpler to build the engine with the right compression and proper ignition for LP only. Also, could I eliminate some of the engine management systems with LP only? i.e. would I keep the hotwire system? etc. I read some mention of that on another website. Thanks, Tim
  7. I am going to build a 4.6 for a 95 D1. I was thinking dual fuel but from what I've read it looks easier to just build for propane only. Also, would it be easier to do away with the fuel injection if I do this? Would this affect the engine performance? Any thoughts on this and any advice on the rebuild for running propane exclusively? This is going to be a mild build up, not a monster. Thanks Tim
  8. Thanks all, so far nothing but good news! Tim
  9. Is it possible to upgrade the HP 22 to withstand the torque of the 2.8 for occasional towing and moderate offroading with 33ish tires? Also what is the optimum operating RPM range for the 2.8? Thanks for the answer on the axles. I too want to upgrade mine but wanted to make sure the stock axle housings were up to it. I can't see owning a Rover if I have to completely replace the drive train just to convert to diesel. If all this is going to work, I am going to rebuild and upgrade all drive components when I put the 2.8 in. This post has been a wealth of information! Thanks, Tim
  10. As I am interested in doing something very similar to my 95 D1, are you running stock LR axles? treetrimmer
