  1. Pity there isn't a higher gearing to get the engine revs down when road driving,..£1000 for an overdrive isn't appealing Looking at the LT77 and the R380 configurations and the way the reverse gear on the R380 is on the mainshaft instead of using an idler engagement like the LT77 I am surprised that someone hasn't come up with a 6 speed gearbox out of the 2 LT gearboxes...???

  3. Repaired my front cover on a 200tdi with some of these http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoKdHHq84wM
  4. Dunno if this will work or if the mods will allow this but I have done a few videos and set the in youtube for general information http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWK-z-J13ko
  5. heres my 200tdi in situe....not finished in this picture but is up and running, even if it is gassing the cooling system
  6. hi ...dude... just as i thought with the injector pipes,..... glad to hear they fit. I'm now in the process of rebuilding the 200tdi block then the 300tdi head'll be bolted on.... This engine is gonna be going into a LDV ambulance which used to have a Rover V8 engine in it......already done the conversion but the engine I put in was a lemon after the second head on it I've now run out of 200tdi heads!!!!
  7. Western...thats what is getting me in a tiz at the moment as the water pump by pass hose really needs to be as short as possible otherwise it'll end up as a big loop to accomodate the 300tdi thermostat hosing,....the difference between the Discovery 200tdi and the Defender 200tdi bypass hoses is that the Defender hose is fatter and shorter,...possibly because the defender will be working harder and needing to have a better water flow when the thermostat is shut? ( might be down to lower gearing???)) Meccano,...have you got your fuel system sorted?. have noticed the 300tdi injectors have a different thread on the injector pipe nuts: injector side.......do the 300tdi pipes actually fit?
  8. I was going to ask about the 300 head, fitting to the 200tdi block as I am lead to believe this is what is going on, how have you got around te problem of the water pump to thermostat housing hose since the 300 tdi has the water pump on the opposite side to the 200 tdi set up?.....Now doing this conversion myself ( when the rest of the 300tdi bits turn up!!!)
  9. My 200 tdi cracks into life fairly the same way, very simple affair not much wiring,... ..as for the 300tdi the timer relay isn't the only thing in the line with the heater plugs doen't it have a temp sensor on top of the cylinder head, under the rubber sound proofing and controls the time the relay is working for? How you considered taking out the glow plugs and checking each one in turn?
  10. odd thing to see the words back presure describing the crank case pressure,.....sorry don't mean to be a pain...the back pressure is a term used to describe the pressure created in the exhaust system to stop the turbo overspeeding,.... Pressure crated by the compression leaking past the piston rings is crank case pressure.....
  11. Hi,, I am sure there is a topic on here but can't quite lay my eyes on it,....I have a 200tdi engine minus the head but have a 300tdi head in good condition waiting to be used,...the head gasket is the same so should fit,...cam followers push rods are the same part numbers although the rockers shaft and rocker arms are different,....... the 2 main things that concern me are the injector pumps between the 2 engines,...will the 300 tdi FIP fit the 200tdi with no problem? and the combustion process since the torroidal on the 300tdi is in the middle of the piston whereas the 200tdi is offset..incidently the 300tdi injector protrusion through the head is 2mm difference towards the centre of the cylinder than the old slugger 200tdi............ okay so please tell me somebody has achieved a conversion easily????
  12. Well its taken some working out exactly how two alternators work together through a control box, especially since the damn thing has gone down...right in front of moany neighbours house...... Heres the first alternator...... And the second one hid up there O/S.. A brief introduction to the theory of running 2 alternators on the same circuit has its problems as one alternator will fight against the other. That you would see the charge light comming on and off constantly unless only one alternator is leading or dominant.....so there needs to be a sensor in the charging system to tell the second alternator to start providing charge... well this is done in the Antares battery control box I have fitted. So where is the big deal? well , providing enough charge for 3 batteries is hard work for a front line ambulance especially when the strobes siren, and auxillary equipment are running....120 amp system on this LDV of mine! Heres some photos of the voltage regulator and if you look closely you'll see that its not actually connected in the alternator You can see the yellow wire and male post on the regulator....well it would need to be connected before the alternator will start producing charge.... Heres the voltage regulator used as you can see its got the male terminal for connection... Here is a regular 200 tdi / V8 A127 / 65 amp alternator
