  1. I have just removed 2 doors,de-skinned them and repaired the frames.

Purchased the repair sections from YRM Metal solutions, and the 2 skins from Paddocks.

Metal repair section is £15 a length, and the skins are £65 each.

If you have access to a welder, its a straight forward enough job.

At less than £100 a door, mine are like new ones.

Couldnt bring myself to part with nearly £750 for 2 new ones.

  2. Bit of a puzzler this one.

I was out last night with the wife, driving along happy as Larry - Bext thing I know, the engine management light came on,followed by the oil and battery light.

No power upon pressing the throttle,so I puts into neutral and coasts to a halt.

Tried to restart but nothing.Pulls the bonnet, checks the fuel cut off button and it appeared to have activated.I reset it,but nothing.Tried again a few times, left it a few minutes, and bingo, started straight away as if nothing had happened.

continued to drive for a further 90 miles without missing a beat?

never done this before, nor had any recent problems

    anyone got any ideas?

  3. Depends on how much money you have available or want to spend?

    What type of Landrover? Defenders,Discovery 1+2,Range Rovers,etc.

Dependant on age and engine type and the volume of work your doing I would always go for Autologic.

Not cheap though, your looking at £7000 for a Landrover set up,but if youve got the workload and given that an average diagnostic check is somewhere between £30-40.The outlay is well worth it.

Fully mobile and comes with full back up.It also gives the option to do ECU power upgrades on later model Landrovers.

  4. Ive recently converted my 19j Defender to a 200tdi and the radiator that came with it had an electric fan on it(LUCKY ME).Having considered option I purchased the X eng kit which fit into the bottom hose of the rad.I have to admit that electrics are not my strong point.T he instructions supplied suggect the fitting of a switch in the cab.As the defender is going to be used by the wife,I dont want to have to rely on her swithing it on when it gets hot.I just want a setup that will turn the fan on when it gets hot and off when cooler.

Can some one supply me with an idiot proof wiring diagram because I just cant get the dam fan to work.

The fan itself works when connected to a battery, its the wiring from the relay that is realy giving me a problem.

Any suggestions are more than welcome.Im hoping to get the defender on the road for thr 1st of june following a lengthy re-build project.

    cheers.

  5. Ive just changed the engine in my defender from a 19j to a 200 tdi.

Got everything in and got it running, but I dont appear to have any igniton lights on the dash.

The fuel warning light is on but nothing else.

When I initially tried to start it the only light that was on was the diff lock light, but after a bit of fiddling that went off and the engine started.

The main earth cable from the engine to the chassis is missing.Could this be the problem or is it something else ive damaged or missed out during the conversion?

  6. Guys,my disco has recently developed an anoying little niggle.

On first starting from cold the engine runs fine for about 30 sec to 1 minute, then the idle drops off and sometimes but not all the time it will cut out.If it doesnt stop the power picks straight back up to the correct idle speed?

The other day I pulled up at a junction and it stalled.I t started up straight away but began to rev up and down of its own accord for about 15 seconds and then cleared.

The engine is fitted to an auto box and the only real problem ive had was the airflow sensor which I replaced about 18 months ago(none genuine part).

I service it on a basis regular(oil and filters)and the plugs are the iridium tipped type.

    any obvious suggestions?

  7. I have recently changed my disc drum rear axle for a discovery disc/caliper set up.

ive noticed that the rear axle half shafts appear to be a 1piece set up which means that my freestyle alloys fit on the hubs allowing the centre caps to be fitted.

I was wondering could I get hold of a pair of rear axle disco shafts and fit them to the front axle allowing the alloys to fit with centre caps.
