Depends what you need to do.. Honestly I would start with basic thing like ELM as a best value for money.. most of 'non-dealers' tools are all the same things just reading OBD codes, sometimes with several 'extra' abilities to access other CAN units like SRS etc.. but for the price of hawk eye I would rather get a X431.. still not sure why would you need to for everyday use..
hello mate , i was thinking of getting a diagnostic tool because of the number of different faults i have on the car , one of the annoying faults is that the side lights are flashing instead of the indicators when arming & disarming the alarm , & i believe that you can change this setting with the nanocom , also , it might point me in the right direction to fixing the random flat battery syndrome , & why , when i return to the car the side lights are on without the light switch being left on , these are just three faults out of the 101 faults that i have with this car , so i thought a diagnotic tool would be the right way to go instead of it going back to the dealer every time it needs to be plugged in . thankyou & all of the other people for all your continued good advise on this subject . happy range rovering , Paul .

hi people , the car is a p38 diesel , also there is no noticable change when the engine is loaded , & the car drives as it should with very smooth gear changes in both hi & low ratio . its just from neutral to drive or neutral to reverse that the engine shudders the revs drop & sometime stalls . it sound like it needs an adjustment to stop the drag to me , can these gear boxes be adjusted at all ? thanks for all the usefull advise & any more advise that you can give me . Paul .

hi there , can anyone advise me on a gearbox problem that i have ? when i used to start the car from hot or cold , the engine will slow down for a split second when i selected a gear & then run ok which i would of said was normal , but recently when i select a gear it slows down so far that it sometimes stalls , i did'nt think you could stall an automatic . has anyone had the same problem ? any ideas would be a great help , cheers , Paul .

You would need to go to a dealer to resincronise your imobiliser or blackbox solutions have developed a gadget called the sincmate which worked for me ,Ah right. How did you fix that then? -

I have a P38 DSE m/y 2000 & the other week i had the n/s headlamp bulb blow , It was a nice easy job to do with no issues untill i came to use the alarm & lock the car . When i pressed the keyfob button to lock the car , I found the side lights were flashing instead of the indicators .The car seems to lock & unlock OK , But unless you are standing directly in front or behind the car , you cannot see the lights flash , whereas with the indicators you can see these flash no matter where you stand . Any ideas from you would be a great help .
P38 diagnostic tool .
