  1. The Overfinch 570Ti Range Rover I had a few years ago (328bhp, 300+ torque) used to get through an uprated HP22 every 4 years or so. A standard one would last even less. If you need it for ordinary road use I would try and get hold of a GM400 4-speed auto box which can handle the power. These were fitted to a large range of GM vehicles in the States. I would assume that Ford of America built a similar box which may also fit. The other problem is the transfer box. Overfinch fitted there own transfer box (with the GM400 or Torqueflite) prior to the intro of the Borg-Warner transfer box. The Torqueflite will accept the power, but only has 3 gears so the transfer box ratios need to be modified to suit. If you are not using it on the road very much and don't need to cruise at high speed, I'd go for the Torqueflite box.
  2. The information I have is that all 1986 models and after use welded bodyshells, including 2-door models. All models before that are bolted body shells. In fact welded bodyshells start from chassis nos BA 160680 Note that the 1986 models were introduced sometime in 1985 (October I think).
  3. I'm afraid that that is not true! All 'Soft Dash' LSEs have a serpentine belt on the 4.2L. I have one outside on mine!! These engines are quite rare as they were only produced for less than a year before the LSE was dropped! However, I believe it can be converted to v-belts, although I seem to remember something about the front face of the engine block being different to the v-belt block. What effect this has I don't know!
  4. A bit of info which may help. The factory fitted 3-speed GM auto boxes and the early 4-speed ZF autos used the manual LT230 transfer box. The later 4-speed auto boxes were fitted with the Borg-Warner box (with the introduction of ABS). This box has a mechanical differential controlled by a viscous coupling. All the coupling does is lock the differential, it does not transfer any power, the power split is controlled by the diff itself. Schuler fitted their uprated Range Rovers with 3 and 4-speed GM autos and 5-speed SD1 manual boxes all fitted with their FF based viscous transfer box. This was a true viscous differential and had a 36/64 split front rear and are claimed to be good for at least 300bhp. Some of these Transfer boxes were also fitted with a Dunlop anti-skid braking system. Clive
  5. To put your minds at rest, it is a front door from a 6-wheel Gloster Saro or HCB-Angus converted TACR2, or a 6-wheel Gloster Saro RIV. They were converted from a normal 2-door Range Rover. Even rarer are the rear doors, which were built from scratch. For more information got to www.rr-conv.info/GlosterSaro/GlosterSaro.html or www.rr-conv.info/HCBAngus/HCBAngus.html or for more general information, try this www.rr-conv.info/FireRescue/TFFACR2.html, although some of the photos seemed to have got lost(?). 6. Pictures of the ARB bumpers attached (I hope).
  7. ARB produced a neat front and rear bumper and you could retain the spoiler! I'll try and dig out some pictures. I know they were available in the USA where Pacific Rovers were the importers, but I think it would be rather expensive to ship them from there or Oz! Does anyone know if there is anything similar available over here?
  8. Yeah, I know. A slight error on my part. I was a bit too hasty in adding the text to the website! I shall be changing that bit in a few days time!!!! Thanks for pointing it out. Clive
  9. Have you seen my web page on these vehicles? Click Here Clive
  10. Hi All, I am currently researching Carmichael Range Rovers and am trying to compile a Build List of all 'light' vehicles produced by Carmichael. Most of these were either Land Rovers or Range Rovers. I have parts of the Carmichael Build List, but I need to fill in the bits in between. To that end I am trying to collect the Build No and associated Chassis Nos for all these vehicles (I estimate there is around 2000 of them). If anyone has any of these vehicles would they be willing to let me have the above details of their vehicle? Also any order, despatch, in-service or cast dates would also be useful! I am currently constructing a website dedicated to these and other Range Rover conversions which can be viewed here;- www.RR-Conv.info. To view the current info I have on Carmichael see here;- Carmichael History Clive ________________________ 1987 Vogue EFi 1994 Vogue (Soft Dash) 1994 Vogue LSE (Soft Dash)
